Russell Shepard is Not a Wide Receiver

Shep is a running back who is often split out wide. I have a want to see him in the backfield more, splitting carries with Ridley. They could run a pro-form or run the I-form with Ridley at FB. In pro-form Shep could go in motion and split out wide or Ridley could go in motion and they could direct snap to Shep with JJ out of the game. Also, the direct snap to Shep with him either handing to Ridley to run up the middle or faking to Ridley and taking it outside would be extremely effective. This would also get Wright and Boone more route running experience.
It is unforgivable to not give Shep the ball in the backfield more and to not let him throw on occassion. If damn Darren McFadden could do it effectively, Shep could do it too, except the throws would be much more of a threat.
I'm somewhat okay with LSU being inept in the passing game as long as we get creative with the run. There has got to be more of a threat that the ball could be run up the middle, run to the side, or thrown on almost every play. If we keep lining Ridley up and trying to pound it, defenses are going to focus their gameplan on shutting down Ridley. Then, we are going to be screwed and all we can hope for is a big play here and there when Shep gets the ball or if we throw deep.
Okay, that was my rambling rant for the day.

I guess I'm not the only one now who likes Shep in the backfield.

I was just saying that the other night. Just put him in the darn backfield. He makes people miss and can hit the holes.
I don't think WR is a natural fit for him. He just needs to get the ball and run.
Geaux Tigers!

What do the coaches see in him that he was not made a QB?? Just wondering... Dude seems to play anything well., and we seem a little short handed at QB these days.

they should run the wing T with ridley at full back, ford at halfback, and shep at wing back
BAM problems solved
suck it bitches

Sure line him up at tailback. After about 20 carries you can go help carry him out on a stretcher. Shep doesn't have the body type to be an every down back. His career at the next level will be at the slot.

You're right (to an extent).
There was a guy who played for Ole Miss last year that has a similar skill set as Shepard.
There's a Minnesota Viking WR with headache issues that has a similar skill set.
My point being is that Shepard is neither a RB or a WR. He is simply just a football player that you have to give touches to by any means necessary. Use him like McCluster or Percy Harvin (direct snaps, handoffs and tosses, passes downfield). There's no excuse for a LSU coaching staff who has seen Ole Miss and Florida EVERY YEAR for the last 5 years, not to figure this out.

wrong. Shep is a WR who sometimes lines up in the backfield.
Stand Ridley, McFadden, Ingram, Richardson, etc... and Shepard shoulder to shoulder and then tell me Sheps a RB.

Dexter McCluster disagrees. He doesn't have to be an every down back. That's what Ridley is for. He could be what Reggie Bush was for Lendale White.

There have been guys in major conferences including the SEC that are his size are smaller and carry the ball 20 times a game.

He's actually performed better coming out of motion from the slot than starting in the backfield. It's given him a running start. Not to mention that if our QB could throw it at his numbers instead of the ground or above his head he would be killing it as a WR.

Tell me, how many receptions does he have this year? How many carries does he have this year?

Shep has 12 carries and 4 receptions. His 4 receptions have gone for less yards than Mitch Joseph's receptions.
