no one of consequence.........I have felt the warmth of the uniform, yet left no lasting mark. What I do have is personal regret, scars, and an intense love for that program.

EVERYONE is of consequence! Congrats to you for having had the honor to wear the purple and gold. What decade if you don't mind my asking?

For the unanatomically schooled posters, please explain the effects of drinking 3 nights before a game are.

I have been a bartender/bar manager for many years. I was also a Division I soccer player. So I'm no doctor, but I've spent more than a little time learning how alcohol affects people.

** Your body has a higher affinity (and therefor absorption rate) for alcohol than it does water.

** For the entire time you have alcohol in your system, whether you're "buzzed" or not - you are only getting about 1/4 - 1/3 of the water you ingest.

** You could drink as much water as you want during the week - the second you start to drink, your body shifts to taking in the alcohol. Somebody mentioned "peeing all the time" earlier. Have just a beer or two? Good job - now you're peeing out the water that was waiting to be absorbed.

** Your physical size and alcohol tolerance aren't going to help you when it regaining hydration lost while drinking. An athlete's size will actually work against him when it comes to the issue of hydration. It doesn't matter if you are a rail-thin 140lb waterboy or a Monster 300lb lineman. All size does is determine how much you can have in your system before you start to feel drunk or you become "intoxicated" by definition. WHY you ask? Because everybody's body eliminates alcohol from your system at roughly the same rate. There are no "super-kidneys" out there.
If you have a high "tolerance" you most likely have a longer recovery time when it comes to hydration.

So it's Thursday afternoon and school/practice is done for the day. You know Friday is a travel day, so you decide it's OK to socialize a bit... You start early (so you can end early), 8pm or so. :et's say you are limiting yourself to one or two shots, but pacing yourself with beer is ok... Besides, you faithfully drink a bottled water for every two beers (oops - you are now only getting about 5oz of hydration from each one).

Go out from 8pm - 1am = 5 hours

2 beers/hour + 2 shots of liquor = 12 drinks.

Those few ounces of water are negligible for overall hydration - the majority is "pissed away"...

When you call it a night at 1am Friday, start the kidney clock - Set it for 9-12 hours. Ability to hydrate normally again starts around noon.

From the time you started drinking at 8pm Thursday until noon on Friday - that's 16 of the 48 hours leading up to game time - you're screwing yourself, your team, coaches and fans.

Sorry for being so long winded... but that pretty much sums it up.

agree charles..... or 40 somethings that never played a down or inning after jr high...
So what makes you heros so special? If you did have the privilege to walk onto that field in Tiger Stadium after jr high, be thankful to those 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, or even 80 somethings that have the passion for this program that creates the tremendous experience you participated in.

and agree not gonna bash the players
You just did! Don't come on here and stir shite about letting down the team and then pretend you're not calling someone out. These readers will speculate and someone will be fingered, just as I'm sure you intended. Or maybe it was just a backhanded swipe at the coaches - but not really unless they knew about it.

The best thing you can do now is get it all out in the open and stop the speculation. The only player I know of with hydration issues was PP, so it's not much a stretch to assume you are referring to him. If he was sick and did go out Thu night, did the staff know about it?

If so, that sucks!

I'm not arguing that players were out drinking, or even whether it is right or wrong. Just saying it happens at all schools and has been happening at LSU for decades, including on a regular basis under Saban. So it's OK to point out that you know some players were out drinking. But to indicate that it is a sign of some newfound lax discipline is wrong and extremely naive.
