You can't base a life decision on the potential of what could be, especially when you are dependent on other people. As talented as Mettenberger appears to be, he's largely untested at LSU, and the risks of jeopardizing your spot in the NFL, either with possible injury, team politics, or whatever else could impact his draft status, doesn't outweigh the benefits of waiting a year. If he does well in the NFL, regardless of his initial draft status, he'll be well compensated. Everyone might be able to say "I told you so" this time next year, but given the information he has, I think he's looking out for himself.

I'll debate it. I would take RR2 over Floyd. It's really a toss up. They are both the same size, their 40 times are similar (some sites say randle is sub 4.4, I have seen Floyd's lowest at mid 4.4s), but I watched RR2 succeed in a system that was not designed to pass very well, going against defenses taht were a fair bit tougher than what ND played against.
floyd has better hands, is a much better route runner, just as big and strong to block in the running game, and is overall more polished than RR. He'll be taken off the board before RR, and will contribute to a NFL team his rookie season, maybe even a 600+ yard wr.

What is the point of recruting these guys that are here 2 yrs. and go pro?
Look I know the reason, I just wish they would honor thier contract with LSU.
Just being selfish I guess.

I just wish he had handled it with more class.....something the whole team needs a lesson in....also did not like Miles comments at Bash about Kiel....really out of character for a man who had a bad two weeks and cracked a bit....disappointed in Les...but time to move on

Blackmon
Floyd
Wright
Randle
Sanu

Randle runs upper 4.4's and is taken at the end of the first, or top of the second.

Jeffrey well be lucky to break 4.6 based on every scout I've heard talk about him. The fat factor is a real problem for him.

Randle was under used his whole time at LSU, but he couldn't run the option.

But you don't leave college unless you have maxed out and have nothing more to gain and coming back another year won't help your draft status. RR could have benefited from coming back another year.

No doubt he suffered under JJ's presence under center late in the year, and in 2009 and 2010

FIFY

Very bad timing for them that what could have been two of our best WR's recruits in recent years (RR and TT) directly coincided with the worst QB play in recent years.

Because he could have been a top wr in next years draft. The only hope he has this year is the combine. JJ screwed him

Think about what you are saying here. You are basically saying NFL scouts only look at the stat sheet. You are saying they don't adjust for the type of offense run, they quality of QB play, or any other circumstances that might affect career #'s. Hell college coaches adjust for that.

They look at measurables, height, weight, speed etc and whether he runs good routes, has good hands, how he fits their offense, can he block downfield.

He's already moving up boards, as someone else mentioned Lance Zierlein has him going #26 to the Texans. He's a radio host in Houston, but he has great connections with scouts. His dad was a coach in college and the NFL (including stops at Tulane and LSU). He's very good.

quote:

26. Houston
Rueben Randle Wide Receiver | Louisiana State
The Texans biggest need is at WR and Randle has the size and speed that will intrigue Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith. Randle's work ethic has been questioned, but the talent is there. If the Texans choose to let Chris Meyers walk they could draft Peter Konz from Wisconsin or the Texans could also let Joel Dreesen walk as a free agent and draft talented TE Coby Fleener from Stanford.

+1. On top of this, I would always side with leaving early if i were a player. You have a limited amount of years that you can make money playing football. Adding an additional year to that to maximize your career earnings seems like a good idea.

RR had over 900 yards receiving this year. Is 1100 yards next year really going to improve his stock? is he going to get bigger or faster? Scouts don't give a frick how many yards a guy has receiving from a shitty QB. If you think stats matter much, you don't understand the NFL scouting process.

I wouldn't go that far, the difference between early first round money and 3-4 round money is way more than an extra year of earning. A guy can play his way into a better draft position. Mo Claiborne was rated as a late first at the start of the year, but now is top 5. The thing with Randle, he doesn't have the eye catching stats, but he did play well enough that with the measurables and good workouts he will easily be a first rounder. At this point he is way ahead of Jeffery. But most casual fans will say Jeffery is ahead because of stats.

He played hard for LSU and as far as I know was a team player.
I watched him play at Bastrop High School and followed his career at LSU and I'm looking forward to watching play in the pros.
LSU fans should thank him for his three years and let it go at that. Move on people.

It would be great for him to run < 4.5 but it would surprise me. He has a great change of direction for someone of that size but I don't think his straigt-line speed is that great.

If this is the case why would anyone stay past their 3rd year? Take your chance in the pros if you have the measurables to impress at the combine. I think Morris Claiborne is a glaring example he could have came out last year and been a 2nd or 3rd round pick but now he's a top 5.

I think it's you who does not understand the scouting process.
