Can you ask him if it is possible that a loss to a top team (e.g. Duke) can improve your RPI? I would like to hear his response and what he thinks.

like I said,it has before. St John's lost to Duke by 35 in mid-Feb of 2000 and moved UP in the RPI after that. Maybe its been modified somewhat.

Because I live in Austin and don't have time to listen to the show.

Just wanted to hear from you what he has to say

My bad. I certainly will post that. I've been wondering for a long time what the RPI really is

Its a computer poll and the formula is pretty simple:

1/4* winning percentage + 1/2*opponents winning percentage +1/4*opponents opponents wp. They add a weighting factor for home/away.

My problems are its too simple so:

1) playing a team that is #300 is much, much worse than #200 (in my book they suck equally)

2) its sooo heavily weighed on SOS, that again you might be better off losing to a really good team than beating a bad one. You shouldn't ever get credit for losing.

Beating Glen Oaks High > losing to Duke anywhere.

I disagree

Why? How does losing to Duke demonstrate you are good at all? Again, me and 4 of my buddies could lose to Duke.

Beating Glen Oaks, means you are better than Glen Oaks. Losing to Duke means you could be Wake Forrest or you could be as a good as a middle school team.
