seems like the only option for now

preserves optionality

complies with any concerns about competitive balance

Why roster them if you don't intend to play them? As long as they are enrolled as students, they can be rostered later so long as there are open spots.

Once again, they didn’t go through all of this just to not play them. I fully expect Wright to play against Clemson and Harris won’t be able to until Ole Miss game because of foot injury.

Right and then let them sue the piss out of the SEC and NCAA and hope they won't sue LSU for not playing them.

Why leave out the most obvious option?

They are enrolled in school. This means they don’t have to be rostered tonight. They can be rostered later and still play later.

They can go through all of this for the depth it provides over the course of the season. It doesn’t have to just be about game 1. These aren’t stud players whose presence is a big difference maker.

Completely agree.

Disagree. Wright’s receiving yards last year would have lead LSU’s team and set the LSU single season record for a TE. We don’t have anyone like him. (Or Harris, but that’s the argument I’m making here.) I just don’t think poo-poo-ing these guys as “just depth” is not an intellectually honest way to engage in this discussion. (Not suggesting you’re being intellectually dishonest, but some are. Others likely just don’t know enough about him besides he wasn’t good enough to make an NFL roster.)
