This article explains the issues facing the conference regarding scheduling and the pros and cons of both the 8-game and 9-game conference schedule. At the conclusion, he lays out his first stab at the 3 permanent opponents for each team in a 9-game schedule.

Several months ago, we took our best guess at the three permanent opponents for each team. We based these on three things: (1) primary and secondary rivalries; (2) geography; and (3) creating as much equity as possible.
Alabama: Auburn; Tennessee; LSU
Arkansas: Missouri; Texas; Kentucky
Auburn: Alabama; Georgia; South Carolina
Florida: Georgia; South Carolina; Oklahoma
Georgia: Auburn; Florida; Kentucky
Kentucky: Mississippi State; Arkansas; Georgia
LSU: Ole Miss; Texas A&M; Alabama
Mississippi State: Ole Miss; Kentucky; Texas A&M
Missouri: Oklahoma; Arkansas; Vanderbilt
Oklahoma: Texas; Missouri; Florida
Ole Miss: Mississippi State; LSU; Vanderbilt
South Carolina: Florida; Auburn; Tennessee
Tennessee: Vanderbilt; Alabama; South Carolina
Texas: Oklahoma; Texas A&M; Arkansas
Texas A&M: LSU; Texas; Mississippi State
Vanderbilt: Tennessee; Ole Miss; Missouri
And now, let the bickering begin!
I bolded the ones that I think are a given.

I would laugh a lot at Aggie being forced into playing Texas every year.
Other than that meh

south carolina really getting the shaft with that one.

I really don't think Alabama will have to play LSU after already playing Auburn and Tennessee.

They absolutely wont kill LSU/Bama, especially with Kelly in the league.

This will be incredibly unpopular, but I would be just fine with 0 permanent opponents.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I really liked the initial pod idea.
The suggested format (3-6 model) looks better IF they play the 9-game conference schedule.

It would piss me off if that's what they didn't do

Like Ole Miss’ schedule. One rough game…then State & Vandy every year.

Would suck to get stuck with aggie every year
Dealing with those weirdos is one of the worst things to ever happen to this conference.

no matter how they split this, some school is inevitably going to get a really easy draw and some school is going to get an unfairly cruel draw.
let's just hope LSU is somewhere in the middle. auburn/bama, moo state/ole miss, texas/A&M/Arkansas i'd be fine with.

i hate losing florida if that is our pod.

OU/Texas/Arkansas/Mizzou
LSU/aTm/Ole Miss/Miss State
Tenn/Bama/Auburn/Vandy
KY/Fla/GA/South Carolina

I hope we get rid of Texas A&M as a permanent opponent. That’s a horrible road trip

Dellinger raises a good point when he says,
If the league gets a bit more granular with four tiers:
1. Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia
2. Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida
3. Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ole Miss
4. Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State Missouri
Then competitive balance could work this way:
Tier 1 plays: Another Tier 1 plus Tier 2 and Tier 3
Tier 2 plays: Another Tier 2 plus Tier 1 and Tier 4
Tier 3 plays: Another Tier 3 plus Tier 1 and Tier 4
Tier 4 plays: Another Tier 4 plus Tier 2 and Tier 3
The top tier seems clear.
The other tiers not so much.
The league could adjust the tiers based on something measurable every four or every eight years.
All or at least most rivalries would be maintained unless something happened (for example) where Tennessee was Tier 1 and Vanderbilt was Tier 4.

While Texas and Oklahoma have reshuffled the hierarchy deck a bit, most within the conference would consider the top half Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida. The bottom would be Tennessee (in many ways, the Vols are caught between the two), South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri.

Interested to see where this ends but if I'd take a guess. For no particular reason but a guess.
Id say lsu permanent oppts:
Ole miss, arkansas and texas a&m
Or
Ole miss, state and texas a&m

AU and Tenn will be locks
With that scenario, could definitely see Bama not wanting LSU as 3rd.

Agreed. Everyone is going to be pissed if they round peg in square hole this thing, and really that is what they will have to do.
The Pods are interesting but same same.
0 permanent opponents is fair AND you will still have the big rivalry games just not every year.
