Stats are extremely deceptive.Burrow made plays that Etling could not dream of making. With Etling we lose to Auburn and probably Miss StAte.
I think Joe is a great competitor and more athletic. He still has 2019 to top Danny Boy and this will reveal the answer.

Stats are deceptive...Burrow threw a ton of catchable balls that were dropped this past season.
More than I can remember in a long time.

Muh O-line
NB4 Buckeyejeaux starts slamming another stat site.
All Nov '18 except I added Danny's slightly better drop rate from 2017 in fairness.

Again stats are misleading.
Who gets to determine what is catchable and what’s not.

More O pumpers rejecting statistics and data because it doesn’t sit well with their preferred viewpoint.

CFB Film Room is a fan site. The stats come from anonymous fans. Pretty much anyone can watch games and post stats there.
As if Damone, Ricky, Lunitik, Goldrush, etc sent in their stats.
This site was debunked a couple years ago. Sorry. Zero credibility.

We’ve been citing Football Outsiders, Weirdo Joe (Ree). What other data and statistics do you purposefully ignore?

And some that weren't. #33 - Alabama #50 - UCF #58 - Auburn
You can’t go by rankings. Teams that are easy to run on are “good” statistically against the pass. That’s because no one bothers to throw on them much. I promise Bama was one of the top five teams defending the pass. But no one could run on them, so they threw the ball a lot. Thus Bama’s pass defense stats look mediocre. But the reality is the emphases on passing led to sacks and fumbles that don’t show in the passing stats.

You can’t go by rankings. Teams that are easy to run on are “good” statistically against the pass.
Look at teams that score 8 times a game vs teams that score 4. That's 4 additional possessions for the opponent. That's the same as 4 turnovers. (Also, teams who play high scoring programs are forced to throw the ball more.)
Extra possession affect passing and total defense rankings.
The average number of possessions is 12. Four more is 33.3%. So 300 yards of total defense ranks 10th best. Add 33.3% and you're at 400 yards of total defense. That is a 68th place ranking.
Also barely mid-major teams are lumped in with ranked teams. Makes no sense. Bowling Greens pass D is top-10?

You can post all the stats you want from LAST YEAR.... they mean nothing for this upcoming year... not a thing......

It’s not 4 additional possessions. If those drives didn’t end in a score they would have ended with a punt or turnover, which also would have given the ball back to the other team.
Pace is what puts them at a disadvantage and leads to additional possessions.

And Burrow is NOT throwing for 3,500 yards this season......
