The only reason I bring up this topic is because of Shaq's recent comments about being paid while at LSU. I admit that I blamed Lester Earl for the demise of LSU basketball and the probation that resulted from his discussions with the NCAA.

I'm now wondering what the real story was and if Lester Earl was coerced into talking to the NCAA or if this was a frick up of the LSU coaching staff clearly breaking rules and being justly punished.

It's an old topic, but it's a Wednesday in late January...

Lester Earl was given cash by an LSU booster. Earl then became unhappy at LSU and made a deal with the NCAA to report the infraction in return for being able to transfer to Kansas with no penalty.

All of that for one year of 42% from the field, 9 points, and 5 boards a game.

The NCAA is controlled by crooks.

Saw him play extensively at Glen Oaks. Was the second best player on that team behind Corey Powell.

It definitely played a huge role in the demise of the LSU program. That said, we have all done things we strongly regretted, and long since moved on.

I doubt shaq was paid. His father fell in love with Dale Brown. From everything I have heard about Harrison he was an honorable man. We also had CJ and Roberts...how could we have paid shaq

I played against him in high school and I've been saying this for years. Corey Powell was a beast and outside of Randy Livingston, he was the best player I played against during the 1991-1995 era in Louisiana basketball.

I think Earl certainly deserves a fair amount of the blame for us going on probation. However, since Shaq is talking about getting paid, I'm sure he and Earl weren't the only two to receive aid from a booster. I just think Earl was the only one who talked about it, which made him the scapegoat in BR.

I understand that most schools were using "dirty" tactics to field a competitive team at the time, but I'm glad the statute of limitations has run out on Shaq's recruitment.

If the NCAA had a shred of credibility it would have opened an investigation of Roy Williams and his culpability in that episode. It doesn't, so it didn't.

Roy Williams is pure garbage.

My roommate in college worked at a car dealership on the West Bank (it may or may not rhyme with Fohn Bord) in 94/95. There were a few LSU athletes on the maintenance crew. They would come punch in and out and sometimes would hang around for a while, but they weren't expected to be there or do any work.

Damn I didn't realize Neil Reed died. I remember him single handedly beating my John Ehret Patriots TWICE the year we actually won the state championship in '93.

The "Gestopo Bastards " made a deal to get Daddy Dale for all his years of ridicule. Simple as that..

Yes, I played against him and he was good, but just not as good as some of those other guys that were mentioned.
