That was 18 years ago? We have players that were being born while he was playing. I don't like this feel.

Leesville, home of the Wampus Cats, has produced some great running backs for the LSU program.

The standouts that I watched play in high school:
-Michael Ford
-Cecil Collins
-Eddie Fuller
-Ted Paris - (ended up playing guard, but was LSU MVP back in the 50's)

not to mention some other notables
-Kevin Mawae - and his brother Mark* (see correction below)
-and a couple starters whose names I forget.
-and a dozen or more who were backups or got injured early.

With a population of about 10,000 that seems like pretty good production on a per capita basis.

You are thinking of Kevin's late brother John, not Mark.

If I recall, his Mom won the lottery one year?

I'm from Leesville too, and was a Senior at LSU in '97. I was at that Auburn game, which we lost, and I remember thinking how much fun the next 3 years would be. Oh well.

Cecil really raped the opposing defenses.

hmm - I never saw either of them play. Didn't know he had a brother John who died. Mark was a teacher at Leesville and I knew him from there = thought he also played at LSU. He is a coach on the football team.
Never asked, just assumed.

Thanks for the correction.

Seems I have heard that too.

I only saw him play at the Homecoming game for my 40th reunion. He was amazing and loved the prospects of his leading LSU forward. Alas - he was a piece of shite.

Later, when I began teaching at Leesville, I learned that he was a piece of shite during his high school years and was allowed to get by with all kinds of outrageous crap. IF ONLY the school had stepped in to straighten him out THEN, he MAY have gone on to great things at LSU.

SO I blame the coach and principal at LHS for the big failure and disappointment that Cecil became. THEY could have intervened = and either we'd never have heard from him, or he would have led LSU to greatness. But to keep him on the field, they pandered to his sexual appetite and innate thuggery.

Danny Smith, people still talk bad about this guy in Leesville. My uncle does the play by play for football so he always fills me in on the stuff surrounding the program. Cecil needed some sort of guidance. I guess from getting to do whatever he wanted in high school, and people basically telling him he is the greatest, he felt he could do everything he wanted and not have an suffer through an consequences. Another sad what could have been.

I have heard he has straightened his life out. Good for him - I wish him well.

So sad that he didn't get that chance in high school. He'd be a millionaire now with the love of the entire state. Could have been a legend.

Saw his last game as a Tiger. LSU blocked the XP to hold off Vandy 7-6.
