Well, that's because he WAS grimacing in the dugout...

quote:

LSU coach Paul Mainieri underwent offseason neck surgery, his surgeon was his former player

As Paul Mainieri flew home from a vacation with his wife late in the summer of 2018, he fell asleep on the airplane. The LSU baseball coach’s neck felt stiff when he woke up, a common sensation after sleeping upright.

Mainieri thought his neck hung at an awkward angle that day, but the feeling never went away. For more than a year, until he underwent surgery in December, the pain got worse.

Mainieri lived with increasing discomfort throughout the 2019 season. The pain intensified later in the day, and LSU often played at night. Mainieri placed his hands on either side of his neck to support it during games. He felt miserable in the dugout.

More about his surgery in this long article

Saw this yesterday

This just goes to show there is no reason to speculate what is going on in someone else’s life or make snide comments that some of the posters were making.

I’m hoping to see a re-energized CPM this season. He looked a bit more up beat in his presser a few days ago. I hope that continues. He’s a better coach when he’s up and roaming about, and into the game.

Now that it's fixed, does that mean the band can play neck again?

Asking for a friend.

Of course a former player performed the surgery.

... probably had better options too.

Probably should have read the article so you wouldn’t look like a fricking jackass

quote:

Mainieri consulted one of his former players at Notre Dame, Dr. Gregory Lopez, who specialized in spine surgeries after his playing career.

Lopez worked at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, which provides doctors for three professional sports teams in the city.

Daily, unending neck pain. Death of his father and mentor. Unexplainable fatigue in pitchers.

It was a tough season all around for the Coach.

I'm looking forward to this year and I'm willing to bet money on this team with Eddie Smith being the X factor
