Actually, the guy who timed pp's 4.2 is the same guy who used to measure Brandon bass at 6'8.

Did anyone break Keiland's calf raise record?
I think not.
I think not.

That is absolute bullshite bro... not a chance in hell 80 players benched over 400. you beleive the dipshit that starts said rumors. as a former college football player i can say without hesitation that 400lbs is a shite ton to bench and you will never see more than say 10 guys on any given team put that up.
I know it's bullshite, in fact I said so at the time. Don't you remember the thread?
It was actually Tulane's coach Toledo that said it (trying to downplay his team's chance against the Tigers) and it turned into a double-digit thread here on the rant.
Remember that? It was an epic thread.

Cornerback Patrick Peterson was hand-timed at 4.2 in the 40-yard dash, while fellow cornerbacks Ron Brooks (4.23), Drayton Calhoun (4.24) and Morris Claiborne (4.25) all went sub-4.3 in the hand-timed 40.

Freshman linebacker Kevin Minter led all Tigers in the squat at 545 pounds.
i figure this has been said, but this seems kind of low

yeah, the hand timed numbers are fun, but that's it.
and yes, the lifting numbers seem awful low. Pretty sure that's not a complete list.

The following is a look at some of the team leaders in each of the testing categories.
That's just a plain frustrating statement. Would it have killed them to tell us what method they used when deciding which 5 players to list for each category? frick.
And I would expect a program of LSU's caliber to have 20+ guys who could bench press 400+.

I know Bench Press is not near as important as Clean Squat etc....But it is obvious they do not prioritize BP, and it shows in those listed numbers (Nevis and Ford are obvious exceptions) and it also shows at the combine...

I don't know about that. The article doesn't say that the 5 people listed are the 5 people who can bench press the most weight. That's why I found the press release so frustrating.

Okay, you've got a point there...

400 lbs for a freshman and maybe a sophmore Might be asking a lot...but in my opinion most individuals on a work out plan for a divison 1 football team should be pushing the 400 lb mark...

Compared to Gary Pegues...yes. Compared to the average NCAA player ....NO

Ok, they may make them perform a crazy pause...But only two players benching over 400 is terrible...(BTW-The other numbers are good)

I would say that a top 30 CFB program lineman should probably be able to bench 400 by his 3rd year in the system. Some LBs, safeties, and RBs on the team (the ones in the 220+ range in body weight) should probably hit 400 by their senior years as well.

Size and strength at DT is a concern. If Nevis goes down it's a 5 alarm fire IMO.
40 times are likely .1-.2 faster than what they will run at combine, but they obviously have great speed. One thing you can at least try to take from 40's is comparative speeds of players. E.G. Peterson clearly faster than Shep.

Doesn't mean very much actually. Based on the numbers it seems low compared to the 18 over 400 lbs years ago. However what if 40 were at 365? 365 is usually the big mark in bench at this level.

You're missing the point. The press release never said that only 2 players can bench over 400 pounds. It just said, "hey, look, here are the bench press results for 5 team leaders we decided to show you."

Very true...I saw a kicker put up 355 on the bench....no press release!

So you think they would not show the top 5 presses...?...I doubt that...

Well, they never said that they were, so I don't know.
Take Mingo's bench press of 375 pounds. It would truly be pathetic if ALL of the following LSU players were unable to do that: Joseph Barksdale (Sr., 315); Greg Shaw (Jr., 301); Will Blackwell (Jr., 300); Thomas Parsons (So., 294); Clay Spencer (So., 288); Cordian Hagans (So., 287); T-Bob Hebert (Jr., 285); Dennis Johnson (Jr., 278); Josh Downs (So., 275); Mitch Joseph (Jr., 275); Richard Dugas (Sr., 271); Lazarius Levingston (Sr., 269); etc.
