I'm implying LSU recruited high character players and that character will help them to succeed on defense. Are you implying their character bares no substance?

I find it amazing that WV gained more yards (533) on our incredible 2011 D than GA gained on LSU Saturday (494).

The biggest problem with our defense is they are getting blocked. period... No one is stepping up and making a play in the front 7. DB's are confused or just plain beat.

Bippity boppity boo theory.

We're bad, we were embarrassed, players are humbled and they'll try harder.

Works every time

The thing that concerns me is the inability to do the fundamental things, like wrap up when tackling. When did it become fashionable to "tackle" by lowering a shoulder and trying for a well placed hit? Why aren't returning starters at DB turning to look back at the QB while in pass coverage? There were at least two easy picks vs GA if the DB just looks back for the ball. And it's not just the GA game. Auburn put way too many points and too many yards on us. Look at this year's stats of the guys who had significant playing time last year and compare. Few are playing as well, statistically. Barrow is a good example. You have to wonder whether some of these guys are more worried about getting hurt and affecting their NFL draft stock, a la Clowney.

i agree. on another post someone was complaining because the players were expressing frustration. it's like when they asked spurrier about his coaches fighting on the sideline and he remarked "At least they care."

these guys do care, and will work to get better.

really good news - they don't have to get drastically better. any improvements with this offense will be great and should pay big dividends

I tend to agree with this. It's one thing to play bad. Its entirely another to walk around, moping, head hung, and acting like it's not a deal.

Our players didn't do that. You think the FANS feel crappy about that defensive output? Just think if you played on that defense.

5. we play two teams who don't play good offense, I haven't seen much of MSU but if we can beat Auburn we can beat MSU. Florida may have one of the worst offenses in the SEC. Florida will be the biggest challenege to our offesne but we could probably beat them with scoring over 20 points

6. Ole Miss while they are scary were figured out by bama, Chavis will figure out what bama did and put that game plan into effect

7. I suspect the D will play with a chip on their shoulder the rest of the season.

Our D has a long way to go before they are back to dominating status, but I think up to the aTm game they will keep the other team in check and give the offense a chance to win the game. They will give up lots against aTm but could make big plays at key times in that game which will set up our offenses who will have a field day against an even worse aTm defense. Bama will be tough but we will have played 2 games in 4 week and one of those games is a scrimmage where starters should get rest in the second half.

Offense will win games for us, all we need from our defense is to make a few stops a game to allow our offense to get a slight lead which will make it hard for the other team to overcome.

good grief, the pumpers are out in force on this thread.

A more realistic view ... our D isn't good, and that's the line, linebackers, and secondary. All are not good.

Sure, we can "try harder" to "fix mistakes", but when the talent just isn't there, that isn't a "mistake" that can be fixed.

Just accept the fact that we're just not very good on D, and good offenses will shred us. With great coaching, scheme can make up for some of the lack of talent, but not much.

Simply put Lsu has no defense! We had better score plenty points or like I said before we will be in for a long season.

I dont know how many of you guys have the ESPN CFB app or read yahoo sports but here is a little write up on the next game. Sounds like the D has a little fire now. If this has already been posted or available somewhere else I apologize.

I can just about guarantee you that Chavis has been hazing the shite out of our front 7 this week, trying to get them to play more physically. That has been the main problem. These guys are athletes (except for Welter), and they can make up for their youth by being a bunch of rabid crazy assholes. Playing timid is a poison pill for young defensive players.

As my old coach always said: "If you make a mistake, you sure as hell better make it going full speed."

As for the secondary, Chavis needs to just get them to communicate better. We really just need a leader back there. Against Georgia, it wasn't like they were just getting burned physically (except for maybe Collins)--every TD Murray threw was to a wide open target while our secondary stood there with their arms up like they didn't know who had which zone, or who had which receiver.

Don't fret, Tigers. They won't be a 2011 Tiger defense, but they will be much improved in the coming weeks.

A more realistic view is that LSU's defensive players are talented but had a serious communication problem that wasn't handled well by the players or the coaches. As in LSU could have went on a diet of man, press, and blitz on several series just to see if Murray could handle it especially with their runningback down, it certainly couldn't have hurt. Lots of places to lay blame, but lack of talent isn't one of them.

God I hope you keep that realistic view of yours in the closet when around your family.

8.Reminder this is Chavis not Miles so expect more immediate attention in getting this defensive problem fixed.

9.Bama's D looked worse and they have improved, so will LSU's.
