I found #3 particularly interesting

quote:

3. Receiving corps creates matchup problems

Pretty much any opposing secondary for Texas football this season will have a difficult time matching up. LSU will be about the most capable opposition that the Longhorns will see for the entire regular season in terms of matching up between cornerbacks/safeties and the lengthy and athletic Texas wide receivers.

The matchup problems the Texas receiving corps creates all starts with senior wideout Collin Johnson. The 6-foot-6 potential first round 2020 NFL Draft prospect has strong hands and excellent leaping ability. Rarely will the LSU secondary face a receiver that is as good at high pointing jump balls and almost always coming down with them.

LSU could also run into problems trying to lock down on all the elusive and agile receivers Texas has beyond Johnson. Senior slot receiver Devin Duvernay is an awesome flank to Johnson, and sophomore Brennan Eagles really broke through in the season opening win over Louisiana Tech last week.
Preseason All-Americans Kristian Fulton and Grant Delpit can only do so much. The threat of the Longhorns star quarterback running along with the array of talented wide receivers this offense brings to the table is going to be difficult for any opposing defense. The developed schemes for Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck will only make it harder for the LSU secondary.

Given Johnson's size do we let Stingley cover him or let Fulton stay on him due to experience?

He doesn't know LSU very well.......texASS has not met our D-Line or pass rush. La Tech gave their O-Line all they could handle. La Tech is not LSU!!!

We will have some challenges with their star WR, but it ends there.

LSU by 10...

Exactly... In a vacuum their WRs could possibly pose some issues. Ehlinger is going to have a tough time throwing up accurate jump balls with Chaisson and Co in his face though. He'll win some but I like our chances of coming away with some picks too.

What a contradictory statement.

I've said this many times but Ehlinger throwing jump balls isn't going to win Texas the game. If they can't consistently find ways to run the ball they are going to get mauled.

Texas players have a reason to feel confident, they beat Ga. last year. But Texas sports reporters have no reason to criticize these Tigers, they do so out of stupidity.

I was gonna post this exact thing.

There is a lot more to covering receivers than just the 1-on-1 matchups. Pass rush will play a HUGE role Saturday night.

The poster made a point about Johnson going up for jump balls. If that's what they're pinning their hopes on, then God help them. Johnson might come down with a couple, but the good guys will get their share as well.

I see a very aggressive defense that will have Ehlinger running for his life Saturday.

We have not established a pass rush for several years. Anyway. I agree we should win by 10

And last year LSU was beating Tech 24-21 going into 4Q in Baton Rouge, while Texas was beating Tech 38-0 this year heading into 4Q in Austin.

Transitive property doesn't work in the same season, let alone comparing games from different seasons.

Collin Johnson is a good player but is he fast enough to warrant coverage by a corner? We may see a safety (Delpit / Stevens) on him to help neutralize his size.

Johnson projected 3rd or 4th round last year. That's why he came back. I seriously doubt he jumps up to the 1st round, unless he has an ungodly year.
