Hard for me to see JM going in the first round period, I would probably see somewhere 10th round or so.

As someone stated earlier, a corner outfielder would have to have a shite ton of potential to go super early.

JMitch is pretty well developed now so to think he is going to find some more pop is kinda hard to see, his defense could be great if he cuts down on the foolish errors.

Must be more disciplined at the plate. Improve on base percent.

Just for giggles, I looked up last years draft, of the top 60 picks....only one was an outfielder coming out of college.

Talked to some young bucks who roll with the baseball players and they said reason Jared Mitchell didn't get the ball thrown much was to protect his 1st round status.........

maybe I just don't know baseball well enough, but how was his catching bubble screens like he did on the GW drive against AU gonna hurt his baseball status? or was he gonna get hurt blocking?

How many of our football players were projected first or second round before this past season and where are they now? I am not trying to be negative but if his game in baseball matches his football prowess he won't even get looked at. I think he needs to stick to one sport. The same with Chad Jones, They aren't Bo Jacksons. Chad Jones had to concentrate on his books just to be eligible for football. Saban would have beefed him up a little and moved him to linebacker by now. Jared might be a corner by now. The talent on this years team was wasted.

I see Jared hitting 15 HR's this year...stealing 20-25 more. I think the avg will never surpass much further than .300 though.

And I do not believe this first post at all.

So you don't believe his PT was cut down this year because he is a baseball player with alot of potential?

Or you don't believe he is a 1st round talent?

Which part of my post wasn't believable.

This year’s projected high draft picks include OF Jared Mitchell (first round), SS D.J. LeMahieu (first round) and OF Blake Dean (second round).

Like I mentioned in an earlier baseball post, that article was throwing around 1st and 2nd round grades pretty loosely.

Lemahieu, I believe could def go that early. He has a MLB frame, MLB type arm, he can run, good defender, etc. He definitely has he potential, and lived up to it as a Freshman.

Dean I doubt goes that high. He doesn't have a position. You dont see many DH's go that early.

But what he does have going for him is that he is left handed. So maybe he could, I don't know for sure. Scouts and teams could fall in love with his sweet swing.

Don't you think that Mitchell didn't play much was because he had that awful botched play against florida causing a pick 6?

The part where you made it seem like he didn't play hard so he wouldn't get injured for baseball. If I misread, my apologies. I just think he wouldn't play football if that was the case.

With his speed he should definitely be hitting well north of .300, I wasn't impressed with his approach at the plate as he got fooled often. Definitely has a very average arm for an outfielder. So great speed, improving glove, lack of a big arm, and lack of plate discipline.....maybe 8-10th round if he improves significantly. Heck, L. Landry might turn out to be a much better all around player.

i think Mitchell will play Sunday games shirtless this season to impress the scouts. It's his best shot at being a top 10 pick, and it's a smart move.

I wonder if Mitchell plays any DH this season? I, too, was not that impressed with his arm.

i could def see him at DH in some midweek games to get other guys some shots in the field every once in a while. Don't know about SEC play.

It would surprise me if Mitchell was drafted in the first round. He'd have to have a pretty big year IMO.

Having said that, he has a lot more natural power than people give him credit for. And, my guess would be that he projects as a Center Fielder in the pros.

But as everyone else has said, he absolutely needs to cut down on the strikeouts. And, I don't think he sees the ball well at all against LH pitchers. That doesn't sound like a first round pick to me. But, I've been wrong before.

Mithcell can be a first round pick. He has all the tools, run, hit, and throw. He may not be the best player in the country but when drafted and strickly playing baseball under major league coaching, playing full time he will learn to hit a curve, track flies and become a complete player. A major part of the draft is drafting talent and potential...he has all the potential.

right, and you saw vast improvement late last year. If similar improvement is made this year he has a chance at first round. top 10 is doubtful, but maybe first round.
