I begin to cringe when Max backpedals…immediately even without pressure.. he starts back pedaling and then throws off his back foot creating a rainbow trajectory pass. That stuff will not fly against SEC D. He has to East-west get out of the pocket, not South. Can’t believe QB coaches or his dad hasn’t gotten this corrected.

An example was that first TD. Rainbow’d it straight through a defenders hands and luckily was a TD.

Oline is well Oline. Prob worst Oline I’ve seen in 15 years of watching. This will be harder to fix because it’s just lack of talent.

100% aware how Max did Saturday, but how’d he do against UCLA who let up 40 points to Fresno St. How will he do against Florida and Bama with that? Can’t be blinded by which we all know is inevitable.

A pretty sizable number of passes are jump balls. I don't know why people think Max got Lucky.

Joe Burrow got "lucky" quite a bit too, in this regard.

I think the biggest issue we’re going to run in to on offense is that we’re absolutely terrible at picking up the blitz. CM didn’t send much pressure, McNeese brought moderate pressure, and UCLA sent extra dudes on almost every play.

Deion Smith had touchdown catches of 28 and 40 yards.
Jack Bech caught a 20-yard touchdown.
Johnson’s final TD pass went for 21 yards to Devonta Lee.

4 of 5 TDs from back foot rainbows, huh. The kid is lighting up the record books as a true soph. Most TD is any QB in LSU history through his first 5 starts.

I think there is time for improvement.

with or without pressure- same here. It is a sure indicator of inexperience and lack of confidence. It reminds me of Jennings and Harris actually. Might as well consider the play lost.

For the OL it takes away a chance for the OTs to recover. If outside speed rush is getting the corner on the OT and you step up you force that DE/LB to alter his trajectory into the OT giving him the opportunity to at least check him.

If you backpedal you are making it a more straight line shot and a footrace. You have zero chance of success.

It will be hard to teach him to step up- run or pass. That comes from many reps and experience. For now, they need to teach him when he backpedals to just tuck it and run. It minimizes damage and will accelerate teaching him that it is a last resort that rarely nets dividends.

Max is under pressure every play, yet this kid is re-writing the record books! I, for one, think with Max and Nuss, along with Howard, this is the most talent with depth we've had at QB for quite some time!

You let your playmaker make plays.

My concern going forward is if we’re going to be able to outscore a lot of the teams on our schedule. That’s pretty much what the game has become. This may be ole miss’ perfect storm situation this year. I’m not sure we have a QB who’s going to be able to do that. But Max is what he is and performed to almost the best of his potential. And we shouldn’t knock him for that.

He had a great game. Deserves a ton of credit. This board is very easily swayed by just how LSU played in past weekend. Believe me 100% that this whole boards attitude will change in a snap against Miss St. The points they’re going to bring up then are the points I’m bringing up now. I’m foreseeing this because it will be a problem against a better opponent

Dec is not the ideal guy you want guarding the QB's blind spot. He has given up some pretty big hits on QB's over his time here. I hope he finds a way to offset DE's athletic advantage throughout the year.
