Can we get a short list of 5-6 guys who would be willing to come to Baton Rouge?

Stansbury? Pierre?

I like Kermit, still has some energy, good recruiter, dynamic personality and local ties. Would have taken him any day over CJJ 5 years back.

But I really would like to go younger. Matt McCall and Will Wade or two coaches off the bat I'd like us to go after, though we might have competition from bigger names that care much more about hoops to compete against.

It depends on if LSU is serious about men's basketball (i.e. Are they willing to spend really money on a new coach)

Buzz Williams would be my first call. Steve Prohm would be another. I think he has enough LA/Gulf South connections to draw at least some interest from him.

Richard Pitino would probably have some interest, but the results at Minn. haven't been outstanding. You hire him only if you think he's just a bad fit at Minn. and would do much better in the SEC. Will Wade is interesting. Made UT-Chattanooga a good program and is doing ok at VCU. Is the draw of a bigger conference and (presumably) more money enough to pull him away from a good basketball program.

Stansbury would be a backup. Not so much because he is a bad coach, but because I think it would be pretty easy for LSU to get him from WKU if they struck out on other guys.

It's nice to say go get Marshall, Jay Wright, etc, but we have to be realistic.

A wildcard is Scott Drew. There doesn't seem to be a logical reason to leave Baylor, but you never know if internal issues would maybe push him to LSU. He already recruits LA hard and Dale and his dad are friends. Stranger things have happened

That's a core issue.
And I'm not confident that Alleva would do a good job with the search / hire.

LSU has to be serious about it. When the team is winning LSU basketball fills the seats. I've seen in first hand. Just last year we packed the PMAC for Kentucky, Olahoma, etc. We packed the PMAC in 1999, we packed it in 2006. don't give me the Football and baseball is the only sport that matters here. That's bologna. Basketball is only second to football around the country and Louisiana when basketball is winning fans come out in droves.

I don't think money will be an obstacle. I think researching the field is critical. There are tons of mid major guys who would do really well here and wouldn't require huge salaries. If we actually conduct any type of search and check into who is out there, we could find a very good, affordable coach. I'm more worried it'll be the lazy approach

Good thing we don't have an AD who can't research more than 3 candidates when given a 3 month head start.

Yeah, I don't agree with Scott too often, but I'm with him on that. I really think we need a culture overall and need a young, energetic guy with some vision to carry that off.

McCall for me fits that bill.

STAY AWAY FROM BRADY ASSISTANTS. So no Kermit, def no on Pierre. I would call Gregg Marshall or Buzz!

This, and I would add to stay away from people who have ties to Dale Brown, too. This would include Scott Drew, who is slimier than the usual slimy frick.

I would take any of the Drews...Dale has connections with them, but as soon as we ax Johnny Jones, I am sure the old coach will go off on a media tirade the way he did when Mike Archer was fired.
