Was alignment code for dethroning Bama and making LSU top-dog in the SEC West again?

Was it really supposed to happen this quickly?

No. We were told that we weren't good LSU fans if we didn't expect a ceiling of 8-4 this year.

I was told that this team didn't have any talent.

It's the first time we have been aligned. The "re-" is extraneous, baw.

I love how this is getting twisted around now.

There were some folks preseason saying that 9-3 (or even 10-2, which is laughable) was the floor at LSU and anything less would be a disappointment. Many others rightfully pushed back and said it’s a rebuilding year, and we should be thrilled if we make it to 9-3 or 10-2. That’s still true.

Saying 9+ wins was simply the expectation all along is implying that Kelly is barely meeting expectations. That’s ridiculous. We should be ecstatic that we are competing for a division title in November, when we went 6-6 last year and have like 14+ new starters.

They weren’t telling you that you’re a bad expectation of you expect a ceiling above 8-4. They were telling you that you’re a bad LSU fan if you bitch and moan about an 8-4 season given the circumstances, and that anything above that would be a hell of a turnaround by Kelly.

At least that’s what I saw.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to lose to Bama this Saturday. It will be close. I think next year will be a very dominant team for the good guys.

I’m not arguing we were never too dog in the West, but I just realized we’ve never made it to Atlanta in back to back years. Made it every other year from ‘01 to ‘11 save for ‘09, but never back to back. I’d like to see us do that in the next 5 years, even if we don’t wind up winning the SECCG.

And I’m getting way ahead of myself, but that Arkansas game next week concerns me a bit, even if we beat Bama Saturday. It’s gonna be a super physical and mentally and emotionally draining game most likely, and to have to turn around and go on the road at an early 11 kick against a good team with a really good QB is a bit concerning. Arkansas’s not great, but they’re certainly good enough to beat us if we come out flat and don’t play well.

Good news is that this team has played better on the road this year, and I think this coaching staff is too good to let us have a post-Bama game hangover, but still. Also, if we beat Bama and they beat Ole Miss, we’d still represent the West with a loss to either Arkansas or A&M because we’d have the head to head tie-breaker over both Bama and Ole Miss. I know the sentiment will be if we’re good enough to beat Bama, there’s no way we’ll lose to either Arkansas or A&M, but that’s not how college football works. But again, this is a different staff, and the buy-in to Kelly’s process should prevent us from going out and laying an egg.
