quote:again with the one season evaluations. do you even realize you're validating the op?
How are thier football teams doing this season?
quote:if you've been around more than a few years, you know that no one, NO ONE, stays on top in the sec. all teams have down years. even urban meyer. EVEN NICK SABAN. he won't stay on top forever. everyone needs to just relax. miles has kept us in the top 3rd and that's very respectable. it's as good as saban and meyer. we'll see if that changes.
Why did our team fall like that?

again, is that the ONLY thing in his contract? work with me here
Since you know, then tell us, what else is in it?
Does he get raises for having good morals?

Winning is the only thing in his contract that GUARANTEES a massive increase.
Prove otherwise.

quote:as far as starters go, there is very little difference between sec teams. depth is where you really start to see a difference. the proof is in the fact that no team stays on top or wins every game. it's the same reason why boise st or utah or tcu can hang with any college team in one game. they have the starters.
As you can see, the SEC would be better than any other conference, and yet the talent within the SEC would not be equal.

quote:If this were true, he would not have been able to hire coaches away from Tennessee and Florida. Your perception does not equal national perception and that of his peers in the coaching community.
like a moron? he's a national joke, literally

quote:miles tenure so far has done nothing to prove he isn't capable. he's kept lsu in the top 3rd of the toughest conference and the "talent gap" is not nearly what rantards make it out to be. what part of the op is "indefensible"?
We just want a coach that matches the programs caliber.

quote:regardless of who hires them, miles has kept lsu out of trouble. granted, the current situation is pending but, what else could miles do other than cut him out of his duties throughout the season and then fire him? clearly, he's in compliance and that counts for alot. but let's focus on his mannerisms
Coaches do not hire compliance officers

COLLEGE AWARDS? what a joke. as far as the draft, well, no nfl team has ever had a bust or a steal, right?
well if we're going by nfl draft status and college awards, you pretty much corner the market on good players
quote:
and you think two years is a good sample set to judge him by?
3, with a SIGNIFICANT drop in each year, with a SIGNIFICANT increase with a better OC in 2007
quote:
not personality. ask michigan fans what they think of him.
they think he's a guy who screwed gary moeller's wife, which is why he was forced out and went to Colordado
quote:
it's one season
it's a ranking in teh 100s
that should never happen unless we are marshall
quote:
let's see if he improves next year.
it's not hard to improve from the 100s
quote:
the team got better from last season
not really
the team just played lesser teams (UGA, UF) and got lucky (MSU, Vandy, Arky)

Do you actually think we are an equally talented team OVERALL

i said that when it comes to starters in the sec, the teams are roughly equal
and you're very wrong

gonzo was being pushed out at UF, and chavis was not hired away from UTenn
plus miles has a shitpile of money to offer

3 words: ole. miss. game.

quote:
he's kept lsu in the top 3rd of the toughest conference
in his 5 years, we've won the SEC once
the past 2 years we've been dominated by 3 of our closest rivals (bama, UF, ole miss)
is "top 3rd of the SEC" good enough for $4M a year?
Posted on 12/16/09 at 11:16 am to SlowFlowPro
quote:none of the points in the op are losing. if the top 3rd of the sec has superior starters, then why don't they win every game they play? why don't teams with the biggest budgets (i.e. florida) dominate the conference regardless of who the coach is? well, because other teams in the sec have great starters too. how is it possible that meyer had an average season in '07 or saban lost to ulm?
without giving miles credit for recruiting that 3-deep talent, he loses his strongest argument
because talent doesn't win just because they step on the field. since miles wins alot, he must be doing something right.

Thanks for the post.
It's sad that there are people on here who want Miles gone no matter what. Having been a Tiger fan for most of my 59 years, I've seen the best and the worst. Some of these guys make me sick. These are great times. CLM will do what needs to be done, because there ARE problems. They will be fixed.
Sad thing is, some folks here hate to see him do better because it might mean he would be here longer. Not THAT'S hateful. I still remember the cretin that insisted several weeks ago that he and the folks around him at the NCG in New Orleans when we beat Ohio State, were really upset because it meant Miles would have to be around longer. How utterly SICK is that?

quote:you honestly think saban is going to continue to have undefeated seasons? ok. we'll see.
why not?
Posted on 12/16/09 at 11:19 am to LsuTool
quote:That is not due to a lack of good recruiting on the part of the LSU coaches but due to the improved recruiting at other schools like Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. LSU is still getting the majority of the blue chip Louisiana players to LSU.

quote:as i said before, winning might be the most heavily weighted item but, i doubt very seriously that if he were out getting arrested every night, it would get overlooked because he won the national championship. he's being held accountible for the program as a whole, not just winning.
Do you honesty believe it says he'll be one of the top paid coaches for complying with NCAA rules or graduating players?

I hope not, but if he can go undefeated with jpw and gm at the helm then I'm certainly not going to doubt him.
