re: Rankings and Strength of Schedule - Media Perception

O look, I'm not saying that Boise will go to the National Championship, I was just saying that I would hate for something like this to happen if we went undefeated. It could be an undefeated Utah or TCU or, hell, even Nebraska, who has played no one and will continue to play relatively no one (Mizzou and Ok St are the only currently ranked opponents they have scheduled). Just saying, we should get some recognition for 6 and 0, and the media frenzy over "Lucky Les" and what is perceived as "bad wins" are killing our ranking. That's all. And it's sad... :(

uggg my pet peeve how stats can be skewed like this
3 of them were against plain awful teams.
you mean like how had Bama beaten South Carolina, Vandy would have been in 1st place in the SEC East. Miss State is 4-2 and those 2 losses were to LSU & Auburn. And the other 2 were Tennessee and Florida

Money, here's the down and dirty. If an SEC goes unbeaten then we're in. None of the other guys you mention will have close to the quality wins that the SEC team will have. Regarding LSU the WV would trump all other OOC wins in the country.
The SECCG would put us in a spot to beat another top 10 team.

Why the F**k is everyone down playing Florida!!! What a win by LSU in the SWAMP! The gators being "down" this year is clearly being based on there dominance in recent years. The truth is that LSU went there and beat a super athletic very well coached team. It was a big win and if any of the punk azz teams ranked top 5 went there the gators would have the W.

but how good were the 3 top 25 teams?
2 of them are still ranked and the 3rd is getting votes. How's that for ya ?

and won 34-12..
They beat the shite out of uk that AU had trouble with. How did Ohio State do against Illinois? That miami win isnt looking so great these days either.

Jay, while I believe you're right, there does remain that possibility (see Auburn 2004). I don't think that'll happen again, but there is that outside shot. And since we aren't getting a whole lot of respect at 6 and 0, I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska goes undefeated and wins the Big 12 Championship, and OSU goes undefeated and plays Nebraska in the Championship. Because of perception and hype. Taylor Martinez v. Terrell Pryor. The Freshman Phenom v. the Grown Dual Threat. A Once Proud Football Program v. the Perennially Proud Football Program. I mean, the story there is better. The Black Shirts Back Again. I trust the computers to offset the human votes, but it wouldn't shock me. That's all. If Auburn can get screwed, so can we... But I'm glad that there are people out there like you who can make me feel better about it. I guess I'm just too cynical.

I'm just saying, all this negative media attention is killing our ranking and its pretty stupid. At the end of the day, we haven't lost. I'd hate to see us go undefeated and have a team like Boise supplant our National Title hopes.

Miami got curb stomped! Shannon is not a head coach! Miami has way to much talent to not win the ACC.

shannon is terrible. greg schiano try number 2?

I don't think anyone is arguing this. I think they're arguing that Florida is a pretty damn good team, particularly at home. I'm not even going to bring up OSU other than to say that I'm not going to bring them up. A win against Florida in the Swamp is a very high quality win, no matter how you slice it.

SOS, at Present, based on past W/L:
Ohio St.: 86
Oregon: 110
Boise St.: 33
TCU: 43
Nebraska: 58
Oklahoma: 12
Auburn: 38
Alabama: 52
LSU: 15
So, once again, many teams are sneaking into the top 10 by beating shitty teams, especially OSU and Oregon.

see that says oregon is in the 100s but i saw them throttle an sec team on the road. beat a decent asu team and beat a top 15 team imo stanford.
thats why i hate those rankings.
while lsu is at 15 beat a unc team without their roster. wvu while noel devine was hurt. a decent florida team with a hurt qb and without their playmaker. all the while needing a huge coaching gaff to beat the same team oregon throttled at home
not that lsu doesn't have a tough schedule i just think numbers don't tell the whole story

Now, based on cumulative W/L, (this is much more speculative, it takes the present W/L records of your future opponents):
LSU: 2
Oklahoma: 9
Auburn: 13
Alabama: 16
Nebraska: 27
Ohio St.: 55 (tied with Tulane, just to through that in, lol)
Boise St.: 63
TCU: 70
Oregon: 78 (ETA)
LSU: 2
Oklahoma: 9
Auburn: 13
Alabama: 16
Nebraska: 27
Ohio St.: 55 (tied with Tulane, just to through that in, lol)
Boise St.: 63
TCU: 70
Oregon: 78 (ETA)

Auburn 2004 says differently
Auburn was stuck behind USC and OU who were 1 and 2 in the rankings all season. Not Boise State and TCU.

so is that just taking w/l total into account and nothing else?

see that says oregon is in the 100s
that's because oregon played portland state, new mexico, and tennessee out of conference.
I think their SOS will tick upwards when they play arizona, usc, and @ oregon state - but right now it's not very good
Granted Ohio State's SOS is worse - and that is expected to have them down around #5 maybe in the first BCS poll
LSU has played 6 BCS teams so far this year - including a road game to start the year. And that same team people rag on for missing 12 players is now 3-2 with wins over Clemson, East Carolina and Rutgers - so it's certainly as meaningful of a win as most of the teams in teh Big 10 for example
