quote:Not possible. People are and will always be biased. Democracy has absolutely no place in determining a champion in a single season. Democracy should be used to determine which mathematical formula is most favorable. After that, coaches and teams should familiarize themselves with that system so that they can strategize within it.
I believe that the only somewhat perfect way to handle the situation would tailor each post season after the regular season and conference championships were played. Have a committee of 9 respectable and unbiased (if that is even possible) people (call it the "supreme court of college football") talk it out together and vote on whether college football needs 1 game to sort it between the best two teams (see 2005 USC/Texas and 2002 Miami/OSU) or have a four team playoff (plus 1) to sort it out (see 2000,2003,2004,2006, and 2007).
As it is, what you need to do to win a national title is make people want to vote for you. That's not how you determine a champion. You set the rules and let 'em fight it out. You don't let 'em fight it out and then judge who you think fought the best.

I think they should just let LSUMatt decide...
(I mean, he got it right last year, didn't he?)

lsumatt handed me my arse last year when it came to math. I wouldn't shut up about how it would be impossible for a 2-loss team to make it to the title game, and lsumatt kept saying that, though astronomically improbable, it was possible (this was in November I think).
Of course the fricker called me out on it, so all I have left is my amazing prediction--25 months ahead of time--that John Brady would take the Tigers to a Final Four.

irrelevant, there were 3 undefeated teams in 2004, one has to be left out in the BCS system. If WVU had beaten Pitt, they would have been playing tOSU and not LSU.
LSU and Florida made it to the BCSCG with help from other teams losing, Auburn did not get that help.
Obviously. But that's not my point. My point is that when an SEC team goes undefeated and wins their conference title, that would normally be a recipe for being a lock for the BCSNCG. 4 teams from the SEC have been in the national title game, and only one got there without a single loss. You'd think, given that, that Auburn in 2004 would have been an easy lock. But the breaks did not go their way. The frustration would come from the fact that the breaks obviously did go Florida and LSU's way.
