His fastball has been below average his last couple of starts. Last week, he still had great command and was able to still be effective. Today, he didn't have his fastball or his command.

Looking back at his last few starts, he has thrown a lot of pitches. Hopefully, his leaving the game early today will positively effect his next outing.

AR will be just fine. Yup, he got a bit rattled tonight, and you could really tell that it had a lot to do with the nerves. The first inning went well, but when the heart of the order came up in the second things didn't end up so well.

AR will be fine and I bet he will be better for having started tonight's game, his first start at the CWS.

Too many outings in a row with high pitch counts. It caught up with him. Pitcher abuse is cumulative.

Is he really throwin in the high 80s now with his fastball? He seems to still have good velocity but the radar guns are rarely getting him throwin in low 90s.

I just hope he's not hiding an injury. He's lost considerable velocity and has no control when he tries to let it sit around 90-91.

just under 80... looked to me to be mostly release issues

as was the issue with Bertuccini...do we not have a pitching coach that can see those things and correct that???

Virginia's pitcher had the same problem early and it seemed like they got it figured out. You'd think that a paid coach would be able to notice what he was doing wrong and let him know.

probably so, but it's kind of like a golf swing, when you've grooved it it's hard to break at that moment

he was overthrowing his fastball all night long

he's just fine at 90-91...he was dialing it up to 93-94 a few times

yeah, but it takes 100 pitches for days, sometimes even weeks to groove a big change in a pitcher's swing.

if he's doing something he normally doesn't do, it is usually fairly easy to get him back into his normal "groove".

Would did you think of the pitch that bert gave up homerun? Did it hang or did batter hit a decent pitch? I only saw one shot of it on a quick replay. Didn't look to be too bad.

it was belt high, maybe slightly above the belt. Gibbs was basically setting his mitt on the ground trying to get both of them to lower their pitches. But, they just kept launching them belt high or higher.

Doing so results in large quantities of base hits, home runs, and suckiness for a pitcher.

you can be just slightly off in release and just can't get it until your next start. can be anxiety, difference in the mound etc. When I caught back in the olden days, I'd have guys that couldn't hit a spot no matter what one day, and 5 days later couldn't miss.
