Those were the good old days.
They were good old days, but THESE are the good old days, too. Big games like this are why that cathedral was built.

I've seen many of these before but love reading them again. Interestingly there are several that I've not seen and they are great! I really got a chuckle out if the writer talking about the fans after the '79 USC game- ..."when they win the coin toss there are tears is ecstasy!"
Y'all should have been at that '79 game. I was.

I've never heard it louder, and the stadium was a good bit smaller back then.

When Urban Meyer was at ESPN, before going to Ohio State, he talked about the 2007 game and said at one time he took off his headphones because he could feel the noise and he looked down at his khakis and he said they were vibrating from the noise.

I don't want to be argumentative, but I suspect something else was making his khakis vibrate.

Yep. I'm going to be getting crunk up in there. I have to leave halfway into the 3rd quarter though to beat the end of 3rd quarter traffic. That's as close as I can cut it.

Why not leave at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and beat the middle of the 3rd quarter traffic?
Or why not leave at the middle of half time to beat the beginning of the 3rd quarter traffic?
Or why not leave at the start of halftime to beat the middle of half time traffic?
Or why not leave at the middle of the 2nd quarter to beat the start of halftime traffic?
Or.............................?

the '79 USC game-
I can't believe they left out the quote from Brad Budde, the USC player, who, after a game at Notre Dame and being asked about the atmosphere there, said "Tiger Stadium makes this place look like Romper Room".

“I know this is a bit redundant, but it is really hard to explain just how loud Tiger Stadium is when you’re standing on the field. The crowd is moving and swaying so much, and in so many directions, it makes the stands look blurry, like a pointillist painting.”

“For three hours on Saturday Night, I don’t know that there has ever been an atmosphere in sports that I’ve been a part of that was as memorable to me. I have no dog in this fight. I mean look, I’ve been to games where I’ve watched Maryland win a national championship, that was very personal to me. Makes me think of my dad who left us too soon. I have nothing but being a sports fan on the line on Saturday night. And I’ve never seen something that felt like that. Or heard anything that was as sustained as that. … Everything that was part of the experience, I was told it was going to be awesome. It was better than I was told it was. … There is nothing I would put ahead of that that I’ve EVER seen in any sport. When you’re there, you don’t want to miss anything.”
Holy shite. I need to cry, fight, or frick something right now.

My family left La for Alaska about two years ago. One of the few things that makes me homesick is realizing that I'll wake up in the morning and I won't be heading to Red Stick!
Plz plz plz go fricking bonkers tomorrow students/fans. Leave your mark on the game!

Not sure how they left this one out on that LSU Sports.net page...
quote:
From Hall Of Famer Ronnie Lott that played with USC during the 1979 game:
"It's probably the only time in my life I was intimidated by the crowd," Lott said. "A lot of great players have played in that stadium, but I don't know if any team has walked into that stadium and dealt with what we went through. From the time we landed to the time we left, I don't know if a team has ever gone through that."
"Every one of us left that night saying 'that was a game,' but I still think about it that way," he said. "I haven't been in an event like that at any level of football. Out of all the games I've ever played in, I've never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment."
