That seems to be a newer model than the white one. I wonder if there's a difference between them because I've been getting conflicting reports but it appears only people with the white one have the issue of no network channels.

Do you have a separate dish just for tailgating?
yes with tripod
we have the genie DVR system from DirecTV at home in living rooma nd master bedroom but we have a separate basic non HD-non DVR receiver in kids room we take out and use for tailgating. costs nothing to do this.

Question for you. I have a hunting camp that we only use about three months out of the year. Could I buy the Tailgater and use it there and piggyback off of siblings Dish account?

You can easily just unplug your at home receiver.

So to sum up - get a dedicated dish for tailgating, but use your home receiver.
bingo

From the information I've gathered, the key to only paying for limited usage is the receiver. I'd confirm this with others who have specifically done it first though.

Spin-off question. Have any of you guys painted your satellite dish? I think i've seen a few purple and gold ones and that would look so cool to do if it doesn't degrade the signal at all.

A friend set mine the first time. I have a dish on a tripod. He had me download a compass app and a level app to my phone.
He set the tripod so that the center post is level using the level app, then used the compass app to align it, then set the azimuth and angle of pitch. It worked perfectly.
He then took it all back apart and had me do it, correcting me along the way. After the first time, I've never had a problem setting it. Just have to make sure the center post is level and everything else falls in place.

new one is 2 separate ant. I bought the tailgater and use a 711 single receiver (the one in my garage). connect and forget.

I am in a similar situation. We got a lake camp that we use 3 months out of the year and a hunting camp that might get used for a total of 30 days during the year so I just went to Dish.com and look at their policies. Surprisingly, it looks like you can do that. You can buy one of the portable dishs and receivers that go with it, and then add the package onto another dish account for $7/mo, or you can buy a package and pay only for the months that you use it. I am sure it is not that simple, but I am definitely going to call DISH and check that option out.

We use direct TV and have a separate dish on a tripod. We just get an extra box/receiver for the tailgate (6/month or 72/year) and keep it in the tailgate trailer. Have to reset it if not used within prior 30 days but simple to do. All you need to do is find someone within 150 miles of Baton Rouge that has Direct TV (either friend or someone else in your tailgate) and pay them to get an extra box for the year and then put a card on the bottom of your receiver with all of their account information you'll need when you have to reactivate it. Also picks up local channels for ABC/Fox/CBS etc.
