QB Issue, I say absolutely not...

I've alway said and stand firm that both will play, whether by injury or game situations. Here is what a pretty famous and successful coach said recently:
quote:
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will tell you that he has lived with all his eggs in one quarterback basket. And he’ll be the first to tell you that decision turned out poorly more than once, leaving him to learn a tough lesson.
“When we’ve lost Jimmy [Garoppolo] — the two seasons we have — the season hasn’t been very good. It’s been tough,” Shanahan said. “Granted, last year we lost a lot of other people along with him. But we’ve got a good team and I don’t want to put all those eggs in one basket again.”

You cannot be a successful football team and rotate qb’s during games. I hate this tired argument of going into season with a 2 qb system. It does not work period.

I don’t like a 2 QB system, just have the #2 ready to go at all times

Exactly.
"Ready to go" means playing #2 (or #1.5) so he can get some game experience...

If you have a 2 QB system, you don’t have a QB

You’re not wrong….
…but only when we’re up by 21 in the fourth QTR. Whoever is second string will get some playing time.

Thanks for the originality.

Worked out pretty well for Chris Leak and Tebow

Yep, people (idiots) are surely good at pulling shite out of their asses and posting it. There's lots of CFB teams who have had multiple QBs in the mix that have been very successful.

That’s the exception not the rule!

But I gotta do it

Honestly I don’t want to rotate but let’s say Myles gets the first shot and lights it up. I’d love to see max inside the 10 and 3rd and shorts for the threat to run

LSU did the 2-QB thing back in the 1980's, but in a modified fashion. In the years 1986-88, Hodson started, and played the first three series each game, usu. lasting into the 2nd quarter. Mickey Guidry would then come into the game in "relief", but Tommy Hodson was always recognized as the starter in the 4 years he was a Tiger and took about 3/4 of all snaps during the "two quarterback" period. And this system worked out satisfactorily, as LSU was 26-6-1 those 3 seasons.
I can readily visualise the same sort of rotation with Myles and Max this year, with Myles as the de facto starter.

I do not think he is referring to running a two QB system but not putting all his bets on the one QB. They may not have had the quality back up nor spent the investment developing him. I am all for that approach. Whoever is back up needs to be able to step in and take over with our a huge drop off.
SF had a significant drop off with the #2 guy. No to the 2 QB system. Maybe a few plays but not a rotation during the game. It just isn't successful and the OL that has had enough issues can not get in a rythum.

The Saints had a playoff team doing just that.

Stick the 2 QB system up where the sun doesn't shine sideways.

I agree, it won't be 50/50, but will be situational. It will force defenses to prepare for more packages, will allow for flexibility in down and distance play calling, and will keep both QBs engaged. Its more effective when the two players have disparate skill sets
Historically we have seen many coaches wait to insert the backup when up by 21 and only 6 minutes left in the game. The backup only gets to throw short third down passes. This is likely to change and the backup will get to play more meaningful snaps

Shanahan doesn’t mean he wants to rotate QBs. He means he would like to have a competent back-up.

When I was a kid Paul Dietzel was coach. He was the man credited with introducing the platoon system into college football--he ran not one but two complete offensive teams and a defensive team. They were called the "White Team", the "Go Team", and the defense was called the "Chinese Bandits", names you certainly couldn't use today. The White Team was the first team offense. They generally ran two or three series, then the Go Team came on. Anyone familiar with the "sparkplug" theory of basketball's 6th man understands the concept; the Go Team was supposed to represent a speeding up of the game, a change of pace to overwhelm the opposing defense. Often the better QB was actually on the Go Team. My point? LSU has a long tradition of two QBs, in fact you might even say we invented it. Doesn't mean it works or that the quote "a team with two QBs has no QB" isn't true. But this kind of controversy is definitely an LSU tradition.
