Pre snap, he could take the swing

Line blocks Quarterback trap draw (trap because you don’t want them too far downfield. Traps are more lateral blocking. X WR has a tagged slant to attach voided space. Quarterback can literally throw the swing, run the draw, or hit the pop slant.

Yea but if you watch the WRs to the right and CEH, they are all setting up for a swing pass

You are right. But look at it closely. When CEH swings out, it pulls the linebacker for a split second. Next, watch the receivers, they take a few steps forward but do not engage in downfield blocking as they would normally do in a swing pass. They just jog a few steps and Jefferson stops and turns back looking at the ball. It was definitely a designed play to clear out as many people as possible. Once the safety bit, Joe pulled the trigger.

Of course it could just be the genius of the play.

I think you are right with this statement.

I want to see this play where Joe fakes the give to CEH and rolls the opposite way like he's going to run, pull up and hit one of our WRs.

It very well could be a decoy.

But they could also have read the defenders & known the play was going away from them

This play was a pass all the way and we didn't want the QB running on it.
It was a ballsy call because it is so hard to execute.
The QB is drawing everyone to him (things can go wrong when that happens) and you need to trust that he can get the pass off with people in his face while he is running forward.
Few QB's can pull this off---Joey Football made this play possible.
