i was told yesterday by someone that knows a few people in the program and they said we are going to miss DE.
We could go like 5-7 this season without competent qb play

I actually like the idea that we are being under rated this year....it should give the players the fight to want to prove us all wrong...
Being under the radar is one thing. But we are green at literally every skill position on offense. I don't see it being pretty once we get into the bulk of conference play.

QB’s develop when you put the ball in their hands early and often over a long period of time.
Our strategy has always been put the ball in his hands until he fricks up, then give the ball to the running back for the rest of the game.
Agreed - Look at Saban and Jimbo. Neither one has any problem sticking a freshman QB in and allowing him to develop while they coach and instruct him, although Saban's not quite as subtle. If LSU had been in the championship game last year instead of Alabama(completely hypothetical, nothing else), they would have rode a struggling QB 'til the end and never even dreamed of making a change. Saban made the change, allowed the freshman to get comfortable, and won the game. That's coaching.

Saban had a OL he could count on....
That’s money....that’s recruiting
Mostly money though...

If LSU’s staff can get it done in the trenches (DL and OL).....the skill positions will fall into place.....
Notice how I wrote LSU’s staff and not Coach O....
Let’s make the staff accountable for their jobs too...
If O’s decisions at WR coach and QB coach are good ones....we (LSU) will be fine...

Totally agree with this. This is why the fans were saying Stick brennan in. Give him some reps against quality competiton. I mean we already had 3 loses . If he goes in and does well then you have something to build on . If he goes in an has a bad game you can see where he needs improvement. Now he is basically as green as the backups with no real game experience. Sometimes just makes you wonder about our coaches. i remember all the fans wanting Beckwith in at LB but coaches kept sending out welter. The QB situation reminds me of that last year.

Answer: an OL that has trouble pass blocking and a 180 LB true freshman QB
Alabama usually blocks pretty well...Incase you haven’t noticed....Saban makes sure they have what they need in the trenches....LSU for the past 5 years—hasn’t...
But I do give credit to O for making an effort to shore up the DL and OL this past recruiting cycle...

Its recruiting a QB that can develop against these SEC defenses thats the root problem. Is it any wonder why very few OOS top high school QB's commit to a SEC school? Would you?
This, no QB development issue, is way overblown. The real issue has been recruitment of the position and the in state La high school's not developing the position for the next level.
Danny Etling was the only SEC QB drafted.
Do Miles and O not get any credit for this?
Harris and Jennings were just not good enough, no matter who the coach was. Im still amazed that LSU had Alabama beat with Jennings behind center one night.
THe three LSU has now are all talented and diverse enough in their skill sets. IF none of these 3 pan out, then one can question the coaches. But it is not an automatic blame for me even with these 3. Its a tough position and being able to "make it happen" has many intangibles, especially against these defenses.
4 were taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft and paid millions. Odds are 1 maybe 2 pan out.

When a prospective QB visits LSU and sees that we only have run blocking road graders....and they just got a 5 star RB
The writing is on the wall...LSU is planning on running....that has been the MO at LSU for a long time....

Hah...programs like Alabama, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, FSU and Clemson had no more success getting 4* and 5* recruits NFL-ready than LSU has in the past 12 years. If top QB prospects want to play the odds, they are better off at Michigan State or NC State - right?

Because he hasn't been the qb's coach for years, he's been the te's coach. During his tenure it's been Cameron and Canada with the exception of the half of the 2016 year.

But it’s mostly at the skill positions.....or Defense...
Let’s see if we can call ourselves OLU....bet our whole team improves....if that happens

It appears Etling developed from a cast off to a drafted QB. Shouldn't someone at LSU get some credit here?
No. He’s at Maryland now.

LSU got what they wanted from Canada...
The whole reason we got him is because we lacked the players that could pass block and we needed deception...
That’s what happens when you only recruit road graders....

Go re watch the Clemson win over Bama.....
There is a reason why Clemson started making big plays in the fourth...
Go see how much time Watson had to throw the ball vs the the first half....
Clemson’s O line was man handling Bama’s DL....there weren’t many plays where that Allen kid was swimming his way into backfield anymore....he was getting handled....

I understand that but don't you think if he was really good at it that he would have been used to help? I mean it's only the position that has crippled LSU for years.

'Risk Adverse' was our biggest problem with QBs.
Practicing a wide variety of plays, but never calling/executing them, was a secondary issue.
WRs have been a handcuff too. They have been inconsistent enough where they make it that much more difficult on the QB.

I agree
We just do not have a stand out at QB on the roster. It's Ensminger's job to get ONE of these guys ready to play.
