The one thing that many UGA fans on and off this forum have not realized is the state at which LSU was in. While we were higher ranked and projected heavily to win, it was a house of cards at that point in the year.
That was at the end of the Katrina year that saw the team completely mentally and physically exhausted and it was painfully obvious......I was there and it was hard to watch.
Eleven games played in a span of nine weeks and five days, plus Russells injury just too much to overcome. Les did not have the depth built up that he has now. You're right; apples to oranges really.

that team was running on fumes, and honestly i don' think we were as good as our record that year. hard to say.

You could see the fatigue in the team when they played Arkansas the week before. They were simply burned out at that point.
I was at that Arkansas game, and it was clear that LSU's energy levels had dropped, and they were struggling.
Fast forward to this year, and LSU just blew out 3 straight opponents, all by at least 24 points including a top 15 Arkansas team.
This UGA team is overrated a bit, but is still very good. Their 2005 team was actually severely underrated. They lost 2 games in the regular season by a combined 5 points. Hell, the "GOAT" Bama team from this year lost their game by 3 points.

Oh yeah, I went to that game.
A mediocre to bad Arkansas team gave LSU everything the prior week.
UGA fans shouting, "Go home, oh wait you don't have one!"
The sheer talent of that team came into being with a 40-3 beating of a good Miami team that was only a few plays from being in the MNC.
They'll be walking out of the Georgia Dome this year for the second time with an L at least.

"i don' think we were as good as our record that year"
The SEC was very down and top-heavy in '05 much like it is this season. It resulted in that 10-1 regular season.
LSU had a 10 win regular season in '96 also reaping the benefits of a down SEC

From Monday 26 SEP thru SAT 03 DEC LSU played 11 consecutive games. The bye week was after the week 1 "home" game in Arizona.
The tell tale fact is---with 3 weeks rest before the Bowl game against a even higher ranked Miami---what the TIGAHS did in that game.

.they were/are light years apart in condition
I see where you are going, but I don't think any amount of conditioning was going to help a team after 11 straight weeks of ball.

I was there but a pregame fifth of Yaeger took the sting out. It was like I wasn't there.

That Miami team was not far off from appearing in the MNC game that year. Had 2-3 plays in the regular season turned out differently they would have been undefeated.

Hadn't we played like 11 straight games? It was obvious in the Arky game the week before!!!!

so, now the parallels involve two non-UGA teams.
Actually, the parallel to draw came only last year. A historically great team against an obviously outmatched benefit of a terrible east.

Third weekend in October, the week before the Florida game. I believe (may be mistaken, didn't look it up) it was the same day y'all were whipping Auburn's arse.
