We aren't expected to win everything during the regular season with such an inexperienced pitching staff. This is what you call a gap year. Next year we will compete for titles. This year we are developing our pitching staff and bats.
Enjoy this team for what it is and appreciate watching the development of these guys. Solid young team that could get on a roll by the summer and surprise.

I understand this and agree with your post. My question has to be with the level of a program such as LSU, and a very respected pitching coach, how is it possible not to have an ace on your staff? LSU normally just reloads with solid pitchers.

We have experienced returning pitchers who apparently looked much better last year so far. There is no excuse for that.

Where have I heard this before?
We have been Next Year U in Football for years.
Basketball Next Yr is suppose to be the year with Smart, Reid and Williams coming in.
Now your saying Baseball is Next Year U?
At least were consistent with Gymnastics

lol bunch of clowns. We literally went to the CWS final series last year and lost all 3 starters. Its the first weekend. Jesus. I don't know how the frick PM deals with all you little league coaches.

LSU baseball shouldn’t have rebuilding or “gap” years.
The best programs reload and compete.

Yea ok. Well we are so you can either bitch and moan all year or comprehend what the team is and enjoy its development.

People who have not been around LSU baseball for very long are ready to jump off the cliff after an inning of the first game.
It happens every year. Ignore them. Stick with the people who follow the team year in and year out.
If you go back to last season and read some of the doom and gloom, you'll conclude we'll never make a regional, never make a super regional, and certainly never get to the CWS, much less the finals.

That’s a very tall order of reality for the delusional posters on this board.
But, but, but we were in the CWS finals just last year, we should win every game every weekend by 20 runs. If not PM needs to be fired.

You guys have got to stop drawing broad sweeping conclusions after every baseball game. The sport isn’t built for that. It’s a game of averages and two games is too small of a sample size. Enjoy the ride. It’s not football where every game matters.

They’ll be fine. Even Lange struggled some last season. I think they were pressing and will settle down

Yep.
Every. Single. Year.
They came around singing their old song of doom and gloom and every single year they end up wrong.
You'd think they'd get tired of looking foolish but apparently not

The ones that say Hess should have been pulled earlier don’t realize how many times our aces of the past started games rough, giving up a few runs over the first couple innings, then settled in. If Hess is going to be weekend starter, he’s going to be expected to settle in and go 5+ innings. Even though it lost us the game yesterday, leaving him in will help down the road more than pulling him after giving up some runs. Who knows, he might not be able to handle the starter role. But there’s only one way to find out even if it costs us a couple early season games that don’t matter near as much as conference games. Like always, this team will improve as the season progresses. The goal is to have the pitching roles set before conference play starts.

It’s been TWO GAMES, why is everyone hitting the panic button? This isn’t football where two games is a good indicator of the future or could dictate the out come of a season. Baseball is a very different game and it often takes time for a team to get their feet underneath them.
It’s extremely unlikely that the pitching rotation, batting lineups, or field positions you see this weekend will be the same come April. It’s just the nature of the game. The only time we should be starting to panic is if this team isn’t clicking by late March, then we have a problem. Until then we just have to understand that this team needs time to work the bugs out. It’ll come around.

I wouldn't exactly call us super young especially with Watson and Hess being draft eligible. Most of the lineup and your top two pitchers will be turned over again next year so I don't understand your argument that it's a gap year.
Pitching will get better and guys will step up into needed roles. We may not be as consistent through the year but it's all about getting on a roll at the right time

The pitching staff is the question mark this year. Not b/c of new faces, b/c of different faces in the starter roles. Walker being injured changed everything. He would’ve been our ace with Gilbert Saturday, and possibly leaving Hess in the closer role. Next year the lineup will be the question mark. If you haven’t noticed, we usually make deep post season runs when both the pitching staff and lineup are experienced with some stud new comers thrown in. The lineup is good enough but unless we have some young guys exceed expectations on the pitching staff,we won’t be making a deep run this year. It’s way too early to know whether or not that’ll happen.

This is the first year we don't have a Lange, Coleman, Gausman, NOLA, or Raunado.
