What happened to the days when it meant everything to just have the opportunity to go play for your state school? There are the ones who like the recruiting limelight and say they want to test the waters and show interest in schools they have no connection with. In some instances, they think they are bigger than the game until they step on campus and find out they are a small fish in a big pond. Forget playing the media game, just commit.

You forget a lot of the best athletes in many states (especially Southern states) have grown up with virtually nothing. For one year, they get free trips and attention thrown at them, and I don't blame them one bit for wanting to visit other schools and see college football games for free all while being treated like Kings.

don't even begin to compare recruiting nowadays to recruiting "back then"

I don't think anything has happened with pride for playing for your state school. What instances are you talking about?

It's one of the biggest decisions they'll ever make. There's nothing wrong with their wanting to take their time and explore their options. LSU is a great choice for any player, whether from Louisiana or not. I'm happy to see them weigh the alternatives and I'll gladly take our chances with each one. IMO, LSU benefits when recruits really study all the choices they have, because if they really look at it carefully, most of them will realize that LSU is the best place to be. Outside considerations like state loyalty or emotional pressures probably hurt us more with out of state kids than they would help us with Louisiana kids.

How has his recruitment been a circus? We're still 7 months away from NSD! And just because the kid doesn't like talking to the recruiting services doesn't mean that he's giving the media the run-around.

we can go on all day like this....let the kids make a decision. Playing for your State school is fine for 90% of Louisiana athletes, but not all.

Good thing Jamarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, Joseph Addai, Terrence Tolliver, Richard Dickson, Patrick Johnson, etc, etc, etc don't agree with you on the whole pride in the state school thing.

Also, I grew up a die hard LSU fan, and if the situation was right and I was a recruit, I would definitely want to come here. Having said that, with the perks and publicity you get as a recruit these days, I wouldn't make my decision until NSD. Like it was said before, you get treated like a king on recruiting visits. Why pass that up?

Or in the 90s where most of the in state players left for elsewhere. We have it pretty good in LA right now.

It's still alive and well. Everyone is entitled to do what makes them happy and live their life as they please. Just because nine kids bleed p&g doesn't mean the tenth has to as well.

I am happy to say that a lot of Ohio kids who have real star power (like a Mike Adams for instance) don't even really consider others schools after OSU offers them. It is their dream to don the uniform and it's great to see them fulfill their childhood dreams.

You will of course have those kids that get away (Desmond Howard and Fred Davis for example) but the saying is good Ohio boys go and play for Ohio State

If I were a high school kid I wouldn't want to be driven around new towns in limos with extremely hot "hosts" . This didn't start with Joe Mc .

kids today are money driven = NFL careers etc. They will go to the HC who best provides positives = National TV expouser, best fundamental coaching skills enhancement, heisman trophies, BCS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

LSU'S GOT THE LAST ONE COVERED

A lot of people move during their lives, hence a lessened allegience to a state school that they might have otherwise had if they lived in podunk their entire lives.

Besides, there is more to college/football than wearing a certain uni. If the kid is interested in getting a degree as well, then why would he go to LSU or Bama when he's getting offers from UT, USC or Michigan

Great players have been leaving this State for years. Less great players leave now because our program is the tits.
