Saban's 2000 season was 8-4 (as I recall) but major shift in overall performance trajectory of team (vs. end of Denardo's tenure) and recruiting was blasting off. After LSU beat Ga Tech in Peach Bowl, there was a strong sense that the future was quite bright. LSU came in Pre-season #13 going into 2001 and the trend line was upwards from there (minus the occasional 2002, that was still a Cotton Bowl year) for the next 5-6 years.

Fast forward 20-years...

2019 not too far in distant past, but 2020 bitterness still tastes fresh. Pre-season (ESPN) ranking of #14 going into 2021 season. Granted, there are many different factors in 2021 vs. 2001...

What are you feeling as far as LSU football trajectory in next 5-6 years?

Heading upwards
Flat
Declining

It feels more flat than upward. Definitely not same system-is-built confident feeling in 2001.

How is Rant feeling about LSU football trajectory in next 5-6 years?

(NCAA Title IX risk aside...)

We won a National Championship 2 years ago, and the team is going to have a massive bounce back season. Trajectory of the program is still upwards IMO. Recruiting is stellar on a year by year basis. I would be willing to bet we win another national championship over the course of the next 5-6 years, than us not winning one. I take last season with a grain of salt to be honest.

My thoughts are that we will never be Alabama, but we will never be back to the 90s barring some sort of death penalty

LSU football program trajectory

The issue with the reasoning is where we are now (despite 2020). We were at the pinnacle just 2 years ago with the greatest season in the history of college football. trajectory is not the issue, the issue is maintenance of the altitude. Fly reasonably straight and we are a contender every year.

Sheezus. How much time did you waste on this terrible post? You must have really shitty chronic.
Flat? Agreed! We are Flat-Out recruiting and signing elite quarterbacks now.
And we have Flat-Out hired exciting new Coaches on both sides of the football.
Plus we have Flat-Out signed Top 5 recruiting classes consistently.
Stoner---the only thing Flat around/about the program and TD is the top of your head.

with the way recruiting is going the trajectory is up, that is if the coaches pan out which i think they will.

2019 we had an Alabama level of success, and weren’t well enough prepared for the off-season downside that comes with that

While it still technically remains to be seen, I believe that Coach O is capable of learning important lessons by getting knocked on his butt. So we should be back to being competitive for 2021 if all goes well

LSU is super talented and is still getting more and more talented by the season thanks to excellent recruiting and coaching by Ed O and his coaching staff.

Indeed, Max is a significant upgrade from Myles. Nussmeier will be a slight upgrade by the time he plays after Max, and Howard will be a significant upgrade over all of them by the time he plays.

Not to mention the wide receiver room is stacked, the running back room is loaded, we have the number one TE in the country coming in next season, the offensive line is being loaded with four and five star talent. The defensive line is loaded to the gills. The linebacker room is loaded with future NFL talent, and the secondary room is loaded with four and five star talent.

Maybe I’m wrong on this thinking, but this is what I’ve grown to accept:

LSU is not Bama, especially Bama under Saban. As much as we want LSU to be what Bama is on a yearly basis, they aren’t. Saban has built the best program I’ve seen in my lifetime, maybe ever.

Not trying to sound Bama-obsessed, but there is no SECCG, CFP, or NCG unless we beat them. That has proven to be true nearly every year since 2008. Since that time, Auburn has been the only other program to challenge Bama.

Based on the current trajectory, this is the current pecking order in the West:
1. Bama
2. LSU
3. Texas A&M
4. Ole Miss
5. Auburn
6. Arkansas
7. Mississippi State

LSU will continue to have good years with great years scattered in between.

LSU will never have another 2019 but at the level Ed recruits at- he will make the playoffs 2-3 more times and win another national title.

Here comes the downvotes from pussys who want us to fail

O did it once, he is certainly going to do everything he can to do it again. I think the trajectory is up.

2019 was one of the greatest college football teams of all time, and the best single season in program history.

LSU will have more great seasons, but they’ll be compared to 2019 the same way people compared to 1958 for a very long time.

Seems like each time O has to shuffle the assistant coaches there’s some mystery involved, and that’s how I feel going into this season.
