Need to block for this to actually happen. We tried it against Cuse but they just crashed on every 1st and 2nd down. I suspect most teams will do this so knowing that ahead of time could be and should be a huge advantage for LSU. I would start the game by taking advantage of an aggressive DL and front seven with short throws, screens, quick dumps, lots of stuff right over the DL and linebackers heads.

We could also fake that, have the defense crash in the middle then throw a screen to our big WR in the flats, let him break a tackle or two and score. LSU needs to take advantage our our big WRs against these smaller DBs. When Sullivan caught that pass on the short post, that safety actually stopped and avoided him. He's a huge guy and once he figures out that he can use that stiff arm, he's going to be a bad mother effer. Same with Drake Davis.

If I'm Canada, I'm running short double move routes with our smaller guys, while running long over the top stuff with our bigger guys and then have the backs out in the flats for quick dumps when the OL screws up. You have two quick options and a deep throw option and then you can mix and change stuff up within that offense. Run fakes off of it once you hurt the defense straight up, not before. A fake only works if you give a defense a reason to feel a real threat and then if you make it look believable.

You can run fakes in the short passing game as well as the run game. It's called pump fakes, you pump fake the short throw after being successful short and watch the defense react to it. Now to engineer the plays is a different story. All our fakes need to be ran faster with more emphasis on believability or crispness. Etling has to trust the OL to block when running his fakes, but at the same time if Canada hurts the defense first with his play calling, then the fakes would freeze the defense much better. It all works together as they simply need to put it together and trust each other.

Okay, so they crash and we throw a quick slant or release the tight end for a quick completion. It's not sexy, but eat up the clock and get your points. Plus you keep the defense off the field.

If DE can't get that done, well maybe MB needs to come in.

Get positive yards on 1st down. DE goes under center all the time. Perhaps a few shotguns on the opponents side of the 50. Not real thrilled with shotgun formations anyway.

If we're having success with the above, keep doing it until they stop it.

tRant tells me every day in multiple posts in multiple threads that this is exactly what we need to do to be successful on offense.

tRant tells me every day in multiple posts in multiple threads that we need to put Brennan in and operate from a 5-wide shotgun, true spread, to be successful on offense.

I love this place!

Did you read my entire post because I go into depth with how to attack a defense crashing the middle of your OL. Cuse consistently sent guys up the middle to stop the run and speed up our pass. Take advantage of that, hurt them first and then start pounding the rock, run blocking schemes to block that blitz and run on the edge. No offense is supposed to look sexy, that's retarded, frick sexy, gain yardage, pick up first downs, wear down that defense and then start pounding it down their throats. Once you get that going then hit them over the top. Canada could be so much more creative, I don't understand it. Stop being so tight, and loosen this offense up. Run the fakes fast and crisp. What do we have to lose here?

Then the defense simply needs to do their jobs, stop trying to make plays outside of the scheme. Keep contain, LSU can turn this around. We do need our DL back but that's no excuse to play sloppy with them out. Frick that. Play LSU football damn it. Time to suck it up and get after it. All these heads dropping, our toughness is gone? What happened to the sideline energy, get back to that, keep it, pump each other up, have each other's back. Leaders need to speak up, come out and play hard the entire game.

I do see spurts, so keep it up, Aranda stay with these young guys, they will all be better for it next year. Look Georgia didn't have a great season last year when they were young and in his first year but now look at them. They are confident, Kirby likely learned a lot a ou his team last year and got some players he needed in recruiting to shore up some of that but he also likely changed a few things in the offseason to more prepare his guys. Orgeron can do the same thing.

O go get the type of players you need in JUCO on the OL and DL, go all out for them, roll out the red carpet for em, just get those nasty guys here. Grab Chase, Marshall and Surtain, or two great CBs, drop the TE, and maybe another guy to make the numbers happen where we need it. Let's do this, being that positive energy back. It's time to respond as HC. Show these players that they are in good hands by having the greatest week of practice and upcoming game. Call our best game on offense, have the defense play sound, keep the penalties down again, improve STs, and beat Troy down like we know we can. Y'all got this LSU. Bring back the good football to LSU. The excuses need to stop, and we need to jump on Troy anyway, play good sound defense, and take their confidence and crush it like a PECAN. Go freakn Tigers!!!

That's what I want to see. Why get 3-4 ypc running horizontally when you can get 6-7 running downhill?

Agreed. This is the solution to beating Florida and Bama as well. Just keep running the ball into 8 man fronts and show no creativity whatsoever. Our pre snap motion is going to confuse them so bad yall

The line's play has been so dismal that most slick or gimmicky play packages likely won't work.

But Canada's play calling and offensive approach have still been disappointing.

jeez, man, have you not been paying attention the last 5 years?

Pounding the rock works against teams where we're physically superior, but not against the better teams.

We need a more balanced approach against the good teams, so best to practice that type of offense in game situations, even against the lesser teams.

the offense's job is to move the damn ball and score points - not to worry about getting rest for the defense. And the more "chunk" plays, the better.

You honestly think a HC gets together with his OC and DC and says to the OC - "don't you dare move that ball down the field too fast, we gotta let our defense rest."

Good lord, you people.

There you go another idiot fan! So we are not having the success we had hoped through FOUR games, that is right in just 4 games the brain trust that is the TD fanbase has decided Canada's offense won't work at LSU so just quit trying to implement the offense that he was hired to implement. With no thought at all as to how hard his offense is to implement compared to our old system, so I am sure 7 months into the job all issues should be ironed out!

Except

So what you suggest is a bunch of 3nouts with no time off clock, and no rest for D.

Of course they do, and Saban is one of them(even with a stacked 2 deep).
It happens in most all games in 2nd half by the winning team, and the team trying to score fast as possible are the ones normally losing.

Sorry about that, had to go to work for awhile.

Yes, I did read your entire post and it is spot on. Can't disagree with anything you said. I just believe you have two hammers back there in DW & NB. Use them often.

You're familiar with Scarlet, the running back for Florida? He ate our arses up last year. That's what I mean by pound the rock. Florida didn't score but one TD as I recall, but he ate up minutes and kept our offense off the field.
