You have this 6 year HC, whatever her name, pulling in approximately 1M/annum, with a VERY LARGE STAFF OF FASHIONISTAS ON THE BENCH...and they manage to leave us with a 4M Tab FOR VERRRRY MEDIOCRE RECRUITING AND RESULTS.
Fact: Without LSU buying the 1st 2 rounds of the NCAA's, when her teams leave the PMAC....SHE HAS NOT WON "ONE" NCAA GAME!!!
Anyone knows why Aleva is still AD?

Did you look at the rest of the numbers in the report? They’re not not good. Got to be the only reason he’s still here, because he sucks at everything else.

Which WBB program actually bring in revenue besides UConn? I'm not saying that shes not overpayed, but that sport just doesn't bring in money including the pro level.

WBB 2007:
Made around 700K revenue
Expenses a little under 3 million
WBB 2017:
Made around 300K
Expenses about 4.3 million
Its insane

Tennessee made nice money but with holly at the helm its been downhill. Way less donations under her because people are tired of her shite product. She recruits well but poorly coached teams. Attendances is down under her as well. Most in Knoxville want her out. Team will play up vs top competition but then lose really bad to teams they should beat. A lot of times her teams are lazy and don't play with effort.
I don't think WBB will ever truly be a major revenue for anyone/us. But LSU definitely can make a lot more than 300 K. Pokey era had over 700K in a different time
But LSU has invested a lot more today than it today in Pokey years. Unfortunately we aren't anywhere near what we pay for

Women's basketball is not even an entertaining sport
Women's softball, golf, gymnastics tennis are pleasing spectator sports. Women's basketball on any level is bad due to the massive drop off in entertainment value from its competition
Example
Women's softball is still entertaining when compared to baseball. Not as much, IMO but still pretty good. Same for golf tennis etc.
Now compare the WNBA to the NBA..... Relative to entertainment value.
I can't go from watching athletes take flight from the middle of the paint and dunk on someone who's elbow is Above the Rim to watching missed layups from point-blank range all while being played 3 feet below the rim

I agree with all of this except women's golf. It's terrible.

I read several years ago that UConn no longer turns in a profit, but that may have changed.
No tv money is a killer

It obviously won't ever be. You posted the numbers from 2007 when we were in a FF season, coming off two straight FFs, had local stars, and still lost a ton of money. What scenario will ever be better than that? It was a money loser then, is now, and will be in 5, 10, 15, 20 years. It's dumb to continue to have this conversation.

I definitely agree but one could argue that we aren't receiving what we really pay for. I think that may be more fair to say

Record-wise, sure. With this, the next coach will probably make more money than she does, could go to a bunch of FFs and still lose a bunch of money.

I think people would be more accepting if we fielded a top 10 team.
Pokey did lose money but she did put LSU's name on the map nationally and that looked well for LSU. LSU competed for national titles as well.
Its not just money. I think people are frustrated we lose so much money but are no where near competing at an elite level.
I honestly don't have an issue spendin the money but I want to see a better product if we do it

I'm not defending Fargas in no way, shape, or form but, from 2007 to 2017 the cost of everything has gone up across the board. The cost to run a power 5 non-profit program has skyrocketed. if you look up how many basketball M/W, baseball, or softball programs actually made money in 2017 you would probably loose you shite. That's why football is so important to put a good product on the field so the school's athletics department can make money and survive. At LSU the only sports that really make money are football, baseball and now Gymnastics. Basketball M/W, softball, T&F, golf, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, rodeo, volleyball none of those make money. I can personally tell you its extremely expensive to run M/W track & field programs. Extremely expensive.

I hear you, but I do not agree. Womens Basketball is fighting a losing battle because it is characterized (by our fans) in every negative way possible. It is not as entertaining as Gymnastics and will be tough to pull such a large crowd regularly, especially here where many of our fans view Women’s athletics, as a whole, with a grain of salt.
The only time people even recognize women’s sports is when repeated, slow news day reports like this come out where we can beat the conversation of the “need” of women’s sports. Moscona never talks about women’s athletics because that’s what the people want EXCEPT when it is time to look at the money being lost by female athletics. That does nothing but create more distance and unlikelihood for interest to be generated.

Did you think the women's basketball team travels around the world for free?

He’s not the reason LSU sports are making money. Its people like us that bust our arse and spend our hard earned money on this shite. Alleva is still here because of King Alexander and the BOS. These people are in place thanks to Governor Honor Code
