mine was biting my tongue. then, when that failed, it was glancing at the second baseman right before the throw to first. it's such a devastating thing that it's hard to explain.

it's sort of like dove/duck hunting..i guess. whenever you have the time to follow the bird for a while before you shoot, you never hit the bastard. however, if he surprises you and you have to instantly pull the trigger, it's almost automatic.

I don't think you understand.

First off, there are 3 outs in a half inning, unless a batter reaches base on a missed third strike.

Your example of 15 innings would actually require 45 outs for each team if the visitor won the game. The home team could win w less than 45 recorded outs.

They call that type of victory a walk off.

A strikeout is not always an out, in a nutshell.

I goes back way before Steve Sax. It goes back to Steve Blass. A pitcher for the Pirates who could not throw a strike.

It has to do with the neurology of muscle memory. If it goes, it's gone.

It happens at a number of positions. Dale Murphy started his career with the Braves as a catcher, but he couldn't throw the ball back to the pitcher. They moved him to the outfield, where he had a great career.

Then don't write things. You had seven decades to get it right.

I had it as a catcher. I would throw to first or third or jog the ball out to the pitcher. (like in that movie). An ump felt bad for me and while I was warming up a new pitcher, he told me two things; look at the second baseman and act like your throwing to him, and sing a song in my head. (he actually said to sing the national anthem). Both worked. Pitchers weren't to keen on a "throw down" speed pitch but it was spot on at least. Batters would complain about my singing at the plate, but it worked. Later I shot competitive archery and saw the same thing shooting in the pro division, except they called it target panic. I've seen PSE sponsored pros shoot two feet over the back of a 20 yard deer. (gimme shot) When I saw Poche' do that all that came back to me in one instant.I hope it was just a fluke and not what I had.

During my playing days in college, I was terrible at throwing batting practice. We would be hitting in the cages and I was a wild mess. I would try to speed it up but would plunk guys or miss the plate pitch after pitch. It got so bad that I didn't even want to take BP in the cages before a game. It was a crappy feeling knowing that you could make routine throws in a game but looked like wild thing from Major League in the cages.
