At first I was like, what's the big deal but then I remembered McNeese got a brand new facility just a couple of years ago.

GT renovation looks great, but that building wouldn’t look great on LSU campus, it doesn’t match, just like the PMAC doesn’t match. I wish they would have converted the Cox Auditorium into the arena.

Really just don’t see how they could justify renovating the PMAC to match the campus architecture. It would be cheaper to build new. Which tells me LSU will botch these renovations. Fortunately I’m accustomed to that.

They can take these remodels down to the steel beams. They could completely overhaul the entire look if they wanted to.

As for new construction, building near the river is extremely difficult and can be halted if the river gets too high. This will drive the cost up a ton. They have built new facilities right next to the PMAC in the last decade. they wont be scrapping those all of a sudden. Those who think it will cost less to do a new build don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Yeah, I had put some info regarding that in the other thread linked on the first page.

For comparison, GT did their remodel for $45-$50 million.

Ole Miss and Auburn, who both built new facilities in the past 10 years, cost around $100-$120 million in today’s dollars.

So it would cost twice as much to build a new arena than to remodel.

Also both of those are around 9000 seat arenas. I would think LSU will want to keep capacity at least around 12,000.

My company works with them a lot. Interesting. I figured they would hire a local firm. I think their closest office would be Houston.

If you look at Georgia Tech renovations to McCamish Pavilion would be a good starting point for the PMAC. Although smaller in capacity, McCamish Pavilion was built with the same round footprint that a lot of arenas were built with in that era. We could absolutely keep the footprint and renovate the exterior and interior.

Before upgrades

After Renovations

I damn sure hope so. PMAC is already starting to resemble the cow palace lol!
