re: PMAC crowd is very apathetic

Even though played well of late and won a couple of big games this year, I don't think the buzz it out there. Valentine's Day and Mardi put a damper on the crowd in the last couple of home games as well. If they beat Ole Miss I'd expect a packed house when the Vols come to town.

for what it's worth, the "student section" down low makes up probably 1/3 or so of the actual students in attendance at many of the games. Typically, the rest of the student body sits above that group and scattered around the arena. I'm not saying the student turnout looked great by any means, but all things considered, student attendance is representative of our entire fanbase's current interest in basketball

I am not one that usually bashes the student section. I've defended the student section at football games when I hear about "how horribly behaved and vulgar they are." That usually comes from someone I went to school with that I remember their years at LSU yelling all kinds of vulgarities, was drunk before noon for a 7:30 game and passed out in Tiger Stadium before the 4th quarter.

why do people constantly bash the student section after every game? its hilarious really when the problem with the "loudness" and "rowdiness" of the crowd is clearly the average fan and not the students
Because 20-30 guys standing and cheering does not make a good student section.

Why would you sit behind the goal
Why be forced to stand in the lower Northwest corner of Tiger Stadium when you can only see action on half of the field and you have to watch the jumbotron when the ball is on the other side of the field? Why not go sit in the chairback seats near midfield in the lower section of the East or West upper decks? Great view!!!

If people want the student section packed then all the season ticket holders should go and sit in their actual seats and force us into our free seats
Valid point. I will admit that if all of the students stood in their area, then the rest of the PMAC would look very sparse.

And there were over 600 students at the game today
Not very impressive.

over 6k actual attendance with 9k paid overall
Once again, not very impressive for a SEC game with LSU fighting for postseason. Not just the students. Les Miles would call "BS" on all of us.

Maybe the basketball team needs a Chris Guillot, or a K Lady

ive seen the "regular" students in the student section. If i was still a student i would go sit in an empty seat some where else so i would not be associated with them.

When I was there, everyone was normal. Weird group behind the basket. We had a guy with a ball on his head and a dude shake his whole body which was pretty funny, but the majority of students sat in the student section. Not the case anymore b/c of that weirdness.

You bringing up the football analogy proves other posters' points. I would sit at the 50 yard line in TS if the seats weren't full. But they are unlike in the PMAC which half court seats are not full. As eighteen said if the regular fan would come to the game we would be forced to sit in our section. Right now we are not. And FYI our section extends to more than just the "standing" section it goes all the way to the top behind the goal and band.

In the last three years they have been full once, this year's Arkansas game. Trust me on that one.

I understand that. One of my points in the original post was that even the people that show up just sit there and watch. Old people stand up and cheer at football and baseball games. Why can't we do it for the basketball games?

Yes, but there weren't 20-30, there were 600...and we would all be clumped together there if we were forced to sit in our section
I know 600 isnt impressive per se, the only reason I brought it up was because people keep acting as if there are only 30 students at the game (has been said twice now)

EXACTLY! If no one was at the game and I could just walk to the 50 yard line and sit in a chair back I sure as hell would...but I can't because other people show up. If the rest of the PMAC was filled the student section would look a lot more full because we would be forced in, as I said before
Yes the 600 student turnout is not great, but I just wish every game people would stop complaining about it when it is clearly not the problem...the support as a whole is the problem and the students are on par with it

Also the energy from the PMAC as a whole is what is lacking, but the students behind the basket do try so I can't really blame them
They are entitled to go to basketball games like everyone else...and they are there having a good time, the problem seems to be with everyone else since they were the ones that dont want to be "seen" with them
The "maniacs" that get there early and sit first row as fans shouldn't go to games or support the basketball team (which they obviously care about) because other people are too "cool" to sit with them? That makes no sense, its the other students that need to get over it
I have stood down there a couple games this year but I just like going to the better seats, but when I was down there it really wasn't that bad. Yes, they are different but it doesn't ruin your game experience or anything if you don't let it

Good point.
I just think that the LSU fan base has been so spoiled with football being a national elite, baseball being a national elite (other than last year), women's basketball being a national elite (for about a 7 year run), etc. The LSU fans just can't bring themselves to fully support a team that just barely makes the NCAA tournament, or even enjoys a little bit of success. I wish that weren't the case.

I agree with you, but even in 2006 with a final four team the crowds were bad until late in the year. If that team would have played in the 80's the roof would have blown off the building. That's just how it was back then.

Yeah I go when I can...interesting opponents, weekend games etc. I have these things called commitments though, you know, work, school, drinking. I love JC and all but sometimes I'd rather do something else than watch us beat UGA to death in an empty PMAC

Great message to the rest of the fan base that the LSU students are busy studying and preparing for their mid-term exams in 2 weeks and not wasting time at a HO HUM basketball game. That is great when the student body is more interested in their GPA, than PMAC's attendance.
These students are "Going for the Gold"
To previous poster DUH! Check the roster of the basketball team and HOW MANY from in state?
