why do people constantly bash the student section after every game? its hilarious really when the problem with the "loudness" and "rowdiness" of the crowd is clearly the average fan and not the students

Why would you sit behind the goal when you can walk in and sit mid court every game (which I do). If people want the student section packed then all the season ticket holders should go and sit in their actual seats and force us into our free seats

And there were over 600 students at the game today according to the attendance report...over 6k actual attendance with 9k paid overall

Where do you get actual numbers from?

I asked one of the event management people (not game marshalls one of the guyse that sits courtside) as I was leaving the game and he told me those #s (student totals, actual and paid)

I think it was 6,800ish actual and over 9,000 paid, so a decent crowd and definitely and improvement

ETA: they have a sheet that has the total breakdown of attendance

I'm not a student at LSU, but I don't get this...."dork" thing with the student section. That it's uncool to be seen there....THE HELL?!

It's a sporting event, if everyone would just friggen go to the damn section it wouldn't matter who is there.

I don't understand how being a fan of the basketball team makes you a dork....or sitting in a certain section.

I can verify the 600 students... Was told so by one of the marketing guys who helps organize stuff for the students.

It doesn't.

The people who get there first and sit at the bottom are mostly "dorks," so people don't want to sit by them.

Probably an improvement but still just a couple hundred over half full.

I am an LSU student and i've been to every home game this year. As stated before where they placed our section, sucks viewing wise. This is the reason why i sit at half court or above the band because i can see better. The fans where i sit are students but what i call casual fans so i myself am not going to stand the entire game and block their view. I stand up when a big play happens and i cheer most of the game. I understand that not all students are as excited about the sport as i am because let's be real our basketball program hasn't been great the past few years so the casual fan who is a student isn't going to be passionate unless they love the game of basketball. That being said

It wasn't this bad a few years back when I was at LSU. The problem and cause of the lack of atmosphere IMO, the size of the "student section". It holds what, 100 students? Same problem with my last year at LSU, they shrunk the size of the section enormously. Increase the size, and you will have a better atmosphere when the team is decent. The downside being you lose some of that extra money the university was making on the non students.

Its a big downside for out athletic dept. Not that I blame them, but I'm just saying. If season ticket demand grew they would sell even more student seats if they could

If you don't have all or more of the students together in the lower sections, the atmosphere won't be great

I agree...but the best way to solve that would be fans who buy tickets to "squeeze" the students into the sections actually designated for them and prevent them from spreading out up there

it will get there in a couple years when we are back on top

Six hundred students at a university with 30,000 students.
It's sad that basketball has lost the support it once had at LSU back in the 70's and 80's when the Assembly Center was called the Deaf Dome and students camped out to get into many games.

and 5,500 people in the Greater Baton Rouge area of over 300,000

I just wish people would stop blaming the students when clearly it is fan support of the basketball team as a whole

but yet every game it is "students sucked tonight"...it is what it is, but blaming/calling out the 600 students that actually were there is stupid IMO

Well considering student allotment is approximately 1500, I'd say 600 students isn't too bad. It's not like they'd just allow 30k students in even if the pmac fit that many so your argument isn't valid

Yes, it is bad. I'm glad there were 600 students that did show up to support the team. It is sad that 900 student seats weren't filled.
My point about the 30,000 students is that the 1500 student seats should have been filled for a team that is on a tear to make it into the NCAA tournament.

No offense, but 600 students for a SEC game is horrible. That place used to rock and the students always lead the crowd. It needs to be fixed if the program is going to rise into a top 15 type program. Mc All Americans do not want to come play in a morgue when they can play at a big time fun environment like the ACC,Big East, or big 12
