That is true.
Of course it is. We didn't have season tickets when I was a kid, but my dad would get a few tickets each year, so it was a BIG DEAL when we went. After I graduated high school in '88 I did not attend another LSU game against until Western Carolina in 2000. Got my season tickets in 2001.
My memories of Tiger Rag are born of a time when I was a kid in Tiger Stadium. I simply was not there between 1988-1999, so it didn't begin during that time frame.
BTW...does that sound right about holding the long note during the time between a score and kickoff? I realize that would likely be impossible today because of all games being on TV and nearly every change of possession resulting in a 2 minute TV timeout, but that seems to be what I recall.
Laughing at the visiting section and shouting a-hole at them after scores, and then having the band play that final note when LSU's kicker would make contact with the ball.

Now the atmosphere is only really great for the biggest games.
You can blame rising prices and HDTVs for that. It's not unique to the students, and I'm not claiming that you're saying it is FYI.

You are the type of LSU fan I wish would stay home. If you are going to spend time complaining and whining about other fans, why are you even going to the games?
So you want a fan that has been loyal for many many years, always shows up and never leaves early to stay home? Genius.
I made a plea to students on here to help themselves and the entire stadium/atmosphere with it. Once the game starts, I will be much more concerned with the team, than what is going on in the students, which isn't apparently the case with some of the posters on here who would rather be tailgating or watching on tv.

If you'd like to "improve" the student section, I will gladly upgrade a student ticket for you, unless sitting in your normal, half-empty 35 yd. line section is too good to pass up.
My section is not half empty. I like my tickets and will stick with those.
Just trying to give you guys some advice that would help your rep and the overall stadium experience for everyone. Hopefully you guys can make a ton of noise on Saturday and the rest of the season. I know I will be doing my part.

Absolutely true.

Try filling your section first.
And what was the rest of the stadium? You can't blame one section for a problem with whole stadium.

then don't come to the game. sell your tickets and watch at a bar or at home in HD on The Network...don't show up.

Thanks...thought so. Not surprising that sort of thing would be what a kid would have remembered from that time frame.

Thats for dang sure. The 100 and 300 seat people are the worst.

You mean I'm "sad" because I would like to hear TGBFTL play decades-old traditional songs without having 20 year olds with the minds of two year olds let the entire country see how patheic LSU students are???
Yeah...I'm not sure what kind of 20yo you were but I pretty much had the mind of a 2yo. Young people are kind of funny that way. Of course, you were probably just mature for your age.

Pathetic? I've got Badger friends, Longhorn friends, Roll Tide friends...they all comment on how amazing the student section looks/sounds. Everyone except LSU fans, it seems, thinks our student section is tops.

Preach it brother!

I'd rather you stay home than just go to the game to whine about the student section, when it's not just the students that aren't attending. Enjoy the experience, fella.
Great. Then don't attack just students, complain to all the other sections.

So "Stddb" makes it "amazing" ?????????????????????????????
Posted on 9/4/14 at 1:43 pm to PurpleandGoldmember
this is just red state, blue state up in here...
gonna say this before I leave: LSU has ALWAYS had the reputation of being the loudest, craziest, drunkest, wildest atmosphere in college football. Always. 20 years ago, 30 years ago and today. We aren't nice, polite and respectful. Never have been, never will be.

the fact you'll complain while sitting in traffic after leaving early is what's amazing.

It was only cool back when they did it

I wish more of these guys would be like my dad. He has snuck into the student section, all the way for the south endzone. And he would do all the chants. During football season, he drops STTDB into random conversations. He's an alum, and successful, and also not a pain in the arse that thinks everything was better back in his day.
