not following your logic here

I guess his logic is that, for the long term, a coach might want to redshirt as many freshmen as possible, so playing them as true freshmen could indicate a lack of concern about the long term. I'm not saying I agree with that logic, and it makes at least as much sense to reason that playing freshmen is a way of preparing for the future, but I'm guessing that's what the logic is.

I don't think Miles has any intention of leaving. I think playing this many true freshman is a change not only at LSU but other schools. Coaches have to win now, can't hold talented kids out for a year if they can play now

Playing so many freshman;

I would guess that one factor leading to more freshmen playing this year than usual is that we had an unusual number of starters lost from last year, meaning there were only a few established starters coming into this year. That leaves competition more wide open, so he might be inclined to experiment more because of that.

Miles has finally come to the realization that he needs to put the best players on the field regardless of classification.As a result,LSU will be able to build quality depth at each position.Some times it's takes a long time to teach an old dog new tricks.I think LSU and Les will start to bark this year.

I think you are the closest...he is probably feeling the hot seat and decided he no longer has the benefit of "saving" freshman, he must now play whoever gives him the best chance of coaching LSU next year...(not saying this is the case with me) he has lost the faith of most of the fan-base and can no longer say "in 4 years when LSU and I..." he now must take the coaching job year to year till he gets everybody back on his side or he starts coaching somewhere else. Also, as already mentioned, we lost a lot of starters and no we have to establish who is taking the spots. he has had such strong recruiting classes that he has actually made this a really tough decision for him. as dumb as this sounds (and i know some arse will point it out) he has recruited to well at most positions making the competition to strong, and making it really hard for him to pick "THE GUY" for each position. (good problem to have, huh?)

No, it could be A reason. But more plausible is that Miles realizes that, whether fair or not, he no longer has the goodwill from winning a national title in 2007. So he is putting what he believes is the best players on the field to win. The last two recruiting classes were stout.

Now sit back and think about how good we should be in 2011.

I just think it is an indication of how stellar our last two classes were. We're getting contributions from RS and true freshmen this year that were both highly recruited (Montgomery, Reid, Mathieu, Downs, Mingo, Brockers) and not so highly recruited (Claiborne, Barrow, Williford, Blue, Adams (JUCO)). While the 2009 class was ranked No. 1 or 2 pretty much across the board, I think the 2010 class, while ranked in the Top 10, may end up being underrated in hindsight. We've got contributors from it already, and guys like Boone, Copeland, Ferguson, Dickson, Gore and Washington haven't really even seen the field yet.

It's time to be excited as an LSU fan, not the usual dumpy losers on here who have to nitpick every conceivable negative they can find about the team. At least let the season start to play out before we get so dang negative.

I swear, there were people on this board bitching that Blue got carries before Ford. So the hell what?! Blue scored a touchdown. Be happy that a not so highly recruited RB that we went after because we saw something in him that others did not scored as a true freshman. That's pretty cool knowing that we've got Ford, Ware and Gore already on the team and Hilliard, Hill and Magee on the way!!!
