I’ve often wondered that myself as admittedly I didn’t follow lsu baseball closely at that time

But I do vaguely remember something about injuries but I’m not 100% sure

I think he had 8 HR in the first 12 games of the season or so

You aren't alone. I came to post exactly this. He only really played his senior year with almost every start at DH.

Matt Gaudet was the last true big bopper of the early Mainieri era before he shifted his recruitment of offensive players to those of a more diminutive stature. Now it was also a time of change to the BBCOR so, even as a Mainieri hater, the shift was necessary at that stage of college baseball. Whether Mainieri overcorrected later in his tenure is a different conversation, but I digress.

Gaudet was only up at the plate hacking for a long ball. He wasn’t interested in any other type of hit. It was either gonna be a HR, K, or GiDP. The lineup that year in 2010 mashed. Unfortunately the entire pitching staff was absolutely atrocious.

I did not realize Matt Gaudet hit 19. That’s awesome. Best base stealer in LSU history, too. 100% rate.

I can’t recall what happened to Dugas in 2022. Was he injured.

I think that was the year he missed like half of SEC play with an injury.

Off topic but highly curious.

Didn’t follow in 22’.

Used to not enjoy baseball

Was primarily a football and basketball guy

2023 was when I got back into it
