As long as he hits them on the ground then it's better than KRob hitting lazy flies to the infield.

Bergman is seeing the ball well and hitting the ball hard. Not much finding the holes.
This was definitely happening early on. But not recently.

In Raph Rhymes .400 season I would like to know how many bloopers and weak hits found holes. Hence the reason he wasn't a high draft pick.
But he was a 3-hole hitter in college. What's your point?

I just dont think that Bregman is an LSU caliber "3 hole" hitter. That's not a knock on him just how highly I regard the LSU baseball program. And I don't care what the scouts think. Scouts drafted Josh Booty with a top 5 pick and he couldn't hit his weight in the minor leagues. Scouts picked Jared Mitchell in the 1st round and he has a career minor league average under 230 striking out one of every 2.6 at bats. Scouts are wrong wayyy more than they are right in Baseball. The kid is a damn good player but I think LSU should always have one of the most feared hitters in college baseball in the middle of their lineup. Bregman is nowhere near that. Personally I think he should bat leadoff. Doesn't strike out, has a high on base percentage and is a damn good baserunner. Seems like the perfect fit for him with a good bunter and left handed batter like Laird behind him. Just my 2 cents.

Not recently? Literally 2 games ago he smoked a ball in the oppo gap for a triple, hit a homerun, had 3 hits and 3 rbi's on the game.

I referring to hard hit balls that were outs. He had a ton of those early. That was my point.

oh roger. i think you're way off on moving bregman down btw. He's right where he needs to be. And last night he did hit a ball very hard that the shortstop made a major league play on from deep short.

Last night the SS robbed him with a great play on a laser one-hop back hand.

good post

Rhymes didn't get drafted high because he was a singles hitter without good speed, nor a defensive position. He was a great college hitter. His skills might not translate to the MLB, but I care more about what they do here at LSU than what they do in the pros. (See LSU football)

I didn't expect most to agree. I like the discussion though.

true

ETA: And I didn't mean for it to take away from my main point. That Chinea is getting a ton of PT and I think we have others who are more deserving.

The bigger issue with raph was that he didn't have a position defensively, to go along with his lack of power.

I definitely see your point but my point is his average will look like the 3 hole hitter that he is at the end. It's a long season.

He smoked one at the 3B this weekend that Lazare ruled an error.

who in our lineup do you think is more feared than Bregman?

I agree he would be a good leadoff hitter, but he also led our team in XBH last year and is doing it again thus far this year. He's 2nd on the team in HRs and first in RBI.

We have 2 guys with zero power that can bat leadoff, and do it well in Laird and Stevenson if needed. Jared Foster hasnt been a bad option either. There is no reason to hit Bregman leadoff considering those guys' skillset. He'd be the 4th or 5th option on the team for that role.

Dude couldnt hit himself out of a wet paper bag, but he sure could sneak the ball through one of the holes in it.
