There is solid science to batting opposite of throwing hand. Your dominant hand is stronger, and that puts your dominant hand out in front.
Maybe.
While not a scientific study, I’ve noticed in right handed people, the right arm is stronger than the left. In left handed people, both arms have equal strength. That’s after 40 years of being a physician.
For myself, I’m technically left handed. But I shoot, bat, play tennis and ping pong right handed. I can write in cursive equally with both hands.
The posters above who stated “you have to start early” are absolutely correct. From the early 70’s and back in time, left handed children were forced to write right handed. My brother is 100% left handed. Everything left handed. His 1st grade teacher (1967), would hit his hand with a screwdriver if he tried to write with his left hand. Writing is the only thing he does with his right hand, and his writing is beautiful.

Swinging a bat left handed is pretty natural feeling, even if you’re a righty. I swung from the right side but would often just clown around hitting left handed and it definitely didn’t feel awkward. It just takes reputation and practice.

If you can train your kid to throw right and bat left it is an advantage for them. They can play anywhere on the field and coaches always want left handed bats. My son is the opposite. Throws left and bats right. Does everything right handed except throwing. There is only one player in the MLB HOF that threw left and batted right

I write and bat left handed but throw right and kick right, nothing taught, just kind of happened.
I play guitar right.
Can bowl, play tennis, shoot guns, putt either way, both feel natural.

This was me in softball as a kid. I play ad side in tennis. I’m left eye dominant and I was always more comfortable leaning my weight into my right leg for extra power. Still am.

My son throws right. I made him bat left from the very beginning. He’s a really good hitter at age 8. I feel like hitting is mostly learned, not inherent.
Adding: And when I say “made him” bat left, if he would’ve pushed back against it I wouldn’t have pushed it. I just figured I always felt better batting left, and I didn’t really tell him there was any other option

I’m right handed but swing left. Dad told me every time I picked up a bat I swung left handed, and he never changed it…

My 6 year old throws right and swings left. Just always did it when he started playing around with bats/clubs age 2-3. When he would hit off a tee at that age, he would always position himself to swing left no matter where he started. Guess it just felt natural

Same with mine. My 9 year old started hitting off the tee at 18 months left handed and it stuck. Bats left, throws right. Youngest son watched older brother hit and started hitting left handed also and throws right. I explained to them that this option allows them to play all 9 positions

Can Josh teach John how to hit any handed?

I’m left handed but play golf right handed. It’s not that unusual. Phil Mickleson is the same way. Right handed but plays left.

It’s because I was taught to hit this way by my Dad at a very young age and it never left.
My little guy picked up his 'little tikes' plastic bat/tee and golf clubs and started swinging LH and throwing RH at age 2-3. Just didn't make any adjustments. He was a infielder/P through travel ball, HS & American Legion. Wore a right elbow guard to protect his throwing arm/elbow, and could square it up. Generally you are going to face RH pitchers 80% or more of the time. He always felt he could see the ball well. A good LH pitcher would give him problems sweeping across & away from him.
