My god. He’s right handed you know. That ball would have come from the grass line. The pics show he had a lane. It’s no further away from the line than a catcher would be throwing out a runner to 1B on a strike 3 in the dirt. You have to be trolling me at this point.

even with the step to create more room the ball still went beneath Tre.

Apparently not. The double play while Tre is still standing on 3B is the worst case scenario. Hence the reason it was go on ground ball.

Correct. He’s right handed, moving to his right, and throwing to his catcher on the opposite side of the plate.

Yep. A pretty tight one even after he’d made more space.

Difference being the C and 1B move to the same side of the line when this happens.
That’s not what happened here. 3B on outside, C on inside.

Nah. Just pointing out that your stance he had a clean line to throw is not correct.

Is that what I said?
I think the catcher’s position on the inside of the plate is one of the reasons he ended up creating extra space.

It went under him because it was a bad throw and he double clutched making Tre be closer to the ball. You used it as a reason he needed more space.
Look, the double clutch happened. He couldn’t get the ball out of the glove at first. He made it MORE difficult on himself. He had to throw even more across his body which actually caused the bad throw. Had he gotten it the first time when he meant to, the play would not have been close.

Whoever was on deck should have been close to the plate, guiding his slide.
Yes! It was Dugas and the replay shows a far too passive Dugas who stayed put and reacted with a safe gesture when he should have moved quickly, shouting even, anything to get in tre’s line of sight and direct the slide wide
Holy crap, this is rich! Dugas is responsible for other players' poor slides now. How about reading a catcher's movement and going with instinct?
The guy got on base twice and everyone here is still hating on him.

Tre is out no matter what
Unless we are talking about the bad slide. Because he would not be out had he slid to his right and caught the plate as he passed. I don't know what to call his slide last night, but it was ugly. I love Tre Morgan and no one can blame the game on him, so I certainly am not. I think him going home was the correct call. This is baseball. Sometimes the right call doesn't yield the best results. Bad slide or not, Morgan is safe 9 out of 10 times. This one just didn't work our way.
