I'd rest easy knowing I did all I could to try to win the series and just got beat by a better team.
Except your second best starting pitcher never saw the mound because you were saving him for game 3.

We also scored 6 and 4 runs on Saturday.
If the offense shows up we win this. Goldstein isn’t elite.

True but if your ace couldn't get it done in the Floyd game do you think pitcher #2 would have fared better? Or do you have regrets thinking your ace could have gotten it done in the Skenes game when he couldn't do it in the Floyd game?
I mean we can go in circles here when these lines of thinking. If you do pitch your ace in game 1 and lose to Skenes in, say, a 2-1 game, and pitcher #2 happens to win game 2, and then game 3 you just get shelled and lose, would you not have similar regrets not having your ace or #2 available in game 3?

As a fan which is all I am I would feel better after losing a series like this than if we lost a series without one of our better pitchers getting a chance.
Let’s say back in 2015 you have two legit starters in freshman Lange and Poche then not much after. You get matched up with a legit top ten pick in the draft that season (like say Jonathan Gray from a couple years before) Are you good if LSU pitches off in game one with the hopes that Lange and Poche can win games 2 and 3? And if Lange loses game 2 are you good with Poche never getting the ball with a shot to pitch?

Sure, if I thought that was our best shot to win 2 games. Especially if we were the visiting team and underdogs which wasn't the case in 2015 but I digress.
I think another thing I would think about is if you happen to get a lead midway through game 1 against the opponent's ace you have the option to change course and bring in your ace or even the #2 in to close game 1 to try to assure the win, but keep him ready for the next game if my lineup is getting shutdown by their ace anyway. I'd feel better having the best of my pitching left for the weekend while the other team didn't.
But that's just my perspective as a fan. I realize not everyone thinks like that. My object is to win the series and if we think that pitching backwards gives us the best odds to accomplish that then that's what I'll do, even if it doesn't work out and my #2 ends up not getting to pitch at all.

This will be the last time someone concedes the first game. Can’t do that in the supers

Yes, you absolutely can. Games 1 and 2 are of equal value in a 3 game series.
Worked for Tony Robichaux in 2000 @ USCe. Hell he saved his ace for game 3

Our 3 starters only gave up 3 runs last weekend. Hopefully Skenes and Floyd can get us in the 7th or 8th and Coleman can extend and get us 5. If so that leave a hell of a lot less outs we have to worry about sweating!

I'll take a near automatic game 1 win by Skenes over some random freshman every time.

CJJ should say before the game that Skenes has a stomach bug and will pitch on Saturday with Ty moving to Sunday. Pitch Coleman on Thursday.
