Doesn't matter the line up. USM is playing like hot SHITE. As long as the hitters and pitchers can fight their way out of a wet paper bag, it's a cake walk.

Kennesaw St does not have anything anyone would call an "ace".
It’s all relative. They may not have an “ace”, but they still have two pitchers that are heads and shoulders better than the mess of a staff they have after that. KSU has shown they can put up runs against midweek SEC staffs. Their lefty starter with a 3.75 may be able hold LSU down enough for KSU to outscore them if they don’t throw Floyd or Hilliard.

Usm actually has 3 legit starters. Tanner hall, hunter riggins, hurston waldrep.
The only way LSU faces their #3 guy is if LSU falls into the loser’s bracket. In that case, LSU would have to sneak out two games with someone other than Hilliard or Floyd to save them for the second matchup with USM. Even then, they’d still have to go at them in a 5th game with whomever they have left.

Money against Kennesaw.
Think about it. He dominated out of conference early.
Some agree about competition, but I don't think he's been the same since his injury.

Wasn’t being negative on his pitching, just the rate of fire

Southern Miss has 2 starting pitchers that were invited to audition for Team USA. Have they struggled at times? Yes. Can they shut down anyone? Yes.
And Hunter Riggins has been the best starter for the last month. I’m not really sure what to think, but it will not be a cakewalk.

My thought is that they throw Hall against Army and Riggins against LSU. Hall has faded but should be plenty enough to beat Army. Riggins is the most experienced and has had 2 really good outings in a row. Waldred would pitch game 3. He's the most electric of the 3, but as inexperienced as Hall.
Bottom line, I think Riggins is their game 2 guy. Hall and Waldred will be 1 and 3, just not sure what order or if they would choose to use them in relief earlier.

I think Southern Miss should start Matt Adams against Army, but I doubt Berry will do it. He is not a risk taker, but I think Southern Miss should. Then you have 3 studs waiting in the wings.

Gotta LUV the optimism but stop focusing on the 'LSU Brand' and look at the reality of this team's weaknesses.

Who do you think southern miss starts in the 2nd game?
Posted on 5/31/22 at 8:31 pm to josh336
I can’t answer that until I see who pitches Game 1.

Hard schedule? Please tell me more.

One of my biggest problems with HC Scott Berry is that he rarely deviates from the whole year weekend rotation. I’m not sure why you would pitch Hall, Waldrep, or Riggins against Army, but I fully expect one of them to do it.
Matt Adams is fully capable of shutting Army down, and the USM bats will have fun.
It’s not going to happen, but it should.

That’s a lot of faith in a pitcher with only 19 IP and a 5.21 ERA. It’s also a lot of faith in an offense that was held to 5 or fewer runs in 3 of 5 series openers against Q4 teams.

I understand where you are coming from. Adams was hurt most of the year. He can hit 94/93 with a wicked curve. I don’t want Adams to beat LSU. I want Adams to beat Army.

That makes sense. His WHIP and K-to-BB ratio are certainly much better than his ERA. It looks like he has given up HRs at the worst time. Has he shown any signs lately that he’s worked through the injuries and is ready to perform at a higher level? That just seems like an unnecessary risk to me.

You are correct. One of the 3 will pitch against Army. Ben Ethridge started the year as our Friday starter. He struggled mightily. We used him out of the bullpen, and he looked pretty good. He also has not pitched in 3 weeks due to arm soreness. He is full go now, so that is an arm that we have not had in a while.
Thanks for being kind. It’s going to be an interesting weekend..

Adams doesn’t throw wildly. He has been completely dominant and then let a hitter unleash a mammoth bomb. Then he gets rattled. He would shut Army down, but I doubt we go that route.
