I'm all for Faulk's legacy, but we have had so many great players wear the number 3 that I don't think it should be retired. OBJ, Buster Davis, Chad Jones all rocked it wearing 3.

Well, what exactly did he do to earn his number retirement? I saw him play, there for everyone of the home games and a few road games. Great player, hold the LSU rushing record, but that doesn't rise to the retirement level.

here for 4 years.
All-American
still holds the SEC Record for all purpose yards
still top 5 all-time SEC Rushing yards (was #2 at time he left)
still top 3 all-time in SEC Touchdowns (was #2 at time he left)
College Football Hall of Fame

No disrespect to the other guys & they also had great achievements, but if Stovall & Casanova can get their numbers retired, so can Faulk

Sometimes it’s the intangibles as well.

LSU isn't rolling/attractive enough for Saban to come here if Faulk doesn't come here and break the cycle of Louisiana's best player going OOS.

Faulk turned the program around after Curley.

Period. Full stop.

Casanova - was only allowed to play varsity for 3 years and was all-American all three years.

Stovall - unanimous All-American. Won the Walter Camp award and was named SEC Player of the Year. 2nd place in Heisman voting. two time All Sec. Played both ways and was only allowed to play varsity for 3 years.

I'm not trying to take anything from Faulk, but Stovall and Casanova were amazing. Let's not pretend that those jerseys shouldn't be retired.

***Also benched his junior year for a different running back who was a beast (to Faulk’s credit he still rushed for 1100 yards in his 9 games that season).

But you left off Faulk’s biggest contribution. He made it cool for Louisiana kids to come to LSU. It was an essential building block for the program. That’s by far the best thing he ever did here and it has still carried through to this day 30 years later.
