I was thinking the same thing. If the pitcher is elevated on the mound and you are in the batters box looking up at him there will be white/light grey background (Tiger Stadium) rigth at the release point of the white ball. Could make it difficult to pick up the ball.

The Mobile Baybear's stadium is much nicer. Wonder why they could go better than that. I mean its nice but kinda average nice. Its not like LSU doesnt make the money to pay for it.

Well, I am sure there will be a scoreboad over there...what did the old Alex Box have directly behind the centerfield wall?

The old box had a huge drop from the field to foul territory
That was due to the original drainage system.

I say we name it "Skip Bertman" instead of "Alex Box"

I know and it was terrible. They didn't change it because they knew they were getting this. It just took longer than expected. I remember Bertman saying he would not retire from coaching until the field was built. He just then gave up because it kept being pushed back and he couldn't wait any longer.

has to be the worst rantard comment ive seen in a really long time. did you just become an LSU fan a week ago? do you have any idea who alex box is?

Thats a dumb statement. Maybe Bertman field at Alex Box Stadium, but "The Box" needs to keep that name.

I agree, but doesn't this mean that now we'll be hitting into the wind late in the year? The old Alex Box was a hitters park once the weather warmed up. Am I wrong in assuming that this park will be more pitcher friendly (if the dimensions remain similar)?

I think the two fields are lined up identically; the new Box will have a better view of Tiger Stadium b/c it's not directly across the street.
So all the characteristics of the wind should be the same.

As I recall, the oak trees that line Nicholson Dr. in front of Bernie Moore. I don't know what a batter at the plate would see...
This gives an idea of what the batters saw in the old Alex Box.

why? thats what baseball has always done
Just based on my observations (don't know anything as fact), I would say based on the 2 photos below (the first of the outfield fence at the new Alex Box and the second of the outfield fence at the new Tiger park), I would say there is a good chance there won't be advertising on the outfield fence. They would not be putting up chain link if they intended to have a sheet metal fence like the old Alex Box. Sheet metal is conducive to having painted advertising. Padding is not.
