Phelps vs Perrilloux - Whose issues were worse?

Phelps - DUI and Bong - Criminal Charges, Olympian, millions in endorsements, worldwide icon
Perriloux - missed classes, being a knuckle head, with no criminal charges, sec championship game mvp and impt part of BCS Championship run, Would have been LSU starting QB for two seasons, possible BCS run by his Senior Year

I like your thinkin, but I like Jordan Jefferson more.

RP was obviously worse for LSU. Phelps is just an idiot. And that happened on a worldwide stage.

Doesn't even compare. Phelps' actions only impacted himself, while Perrilloux (learn to spell his name before you post about him again) hurt his teammates.
Also, Phelps got drunk and smoked pot -- his commitment to his sport was never questioned. Perrilloux was involved in violent incidents, implicated in a counterfeiting operation, constantly went out drinking during the season, reportedly failed a drug test, and got busted trying to get into a casino underaged.
It's clear where you stand on this, but the two don't even compare.

phelps is set for life regardless. also, the bong thing is silly. was doing that in private, and someone ratted him out.

This is the dumbest thread ever. Phelps likes to smoke bud and win gold metals for the US. Perrilloux likes to snort/smoke/be a thug and probably will be working at McDonalds in two years. You can not put these two guys in the same category.

Agreed, just in the sense RP was a role model to maybe some kids in the Southeast, while Phelps was admired by all those who followed swimming and those that admired athleticism and excellence in the sport they chose to compete in for that matter. Sad to see on both accounts.

I don't know about ever but certainly the worst of 2009 so far
Posted on 2/8/09 at 4:08 pm to Hardwood Tiger
you left out the hanging out at the crazy horse strip club every night and failing multiple drug tests for coke
Posted on 2/8/09 at 4:09 pm to Ooh Wee Ooh
Yeah, boy. Smoking pot has really cost Michael Phelps. Without the pot, he probably would have won 9 gold medals this last year.

yes you are right his actions did hurt his team more but you really think that the average 18 to 20 yr old kid that is in college that is not drinking, trying to go to the club, and try to do the occasional puff puff give drug while in school don't get me wrong but it is college right.

So what, I forgot a fricking L. If you don't think endorsing a product for fortune 500 companies, being the standard bearer for your sport, and having millions of fans idolize you not an important thing, I guess I agree with you assessment.
Smoke pot ok, drinking and driving, not so much.

Perrilloux, even Obama smoked pot!

I don't think so.

I imagine RP was a major pain in the arse if Les Miles decided to kick him off the squad when he was supposed to start and only had Hatch, LEE and JJ to step up in that role.

First lets get something straight. Phelps and RP are both idiots that threw away millions because of making absolutely stupid desicions.
Technically according to the law at this moment Phelps was the worse one of the two.
In reality (Not just what will hold up in court and has come to public light) RP is a thug. He has broken plenty of laws that could have sent him to jail till he was an old man.
Although DUI can kill someone and I am not condoning it at least it wasn't the intention to involve anyone else in the criminal act. RP on the other hand belongs in Angola.
I have left out specific acts he did because I am not sure how much is know to the general public and how much has been kept under wraps.

I agree that he had to go and I supported the decision. I just thought it would be interesting to see where people stood in regards to two people of similar ages and the mistakes that they made. That's all.

Phelps did something that just about everyone his age does to some extent. Considering nowadays if you have had two beers you are over the limit, I would venture the guess that just about everyone on here has driven when they have consumed at least that. It's just the matter of being unlucky and getting pulled over -- then again, maybe he was shitfaced and swerving all over the road. We will never know.
I personally don't know very many people who came to college, went to strip clubs, snorted coke, failed drug tests, tried getting into casinos at 19 on a fake ID, was implicated in a counterfeiting scheme, was implicated in several incidents at bars, and many other things.
Also, nice straw man argument. I never said that getting endorsed by fortune 500 companies isn't a big deal. We were talking about comparing their transgressions, and there is no comparison.
Have a great day.
edit: I meant to say "went to strip clubs several nights a week"... of course I know college students that have gone to strip clubs, haha

I'm not really sure why.
I'd imagine few people give a damn about Phelps or swimming, thus, they aren't gonna take issue with whatever he does.
He can smoke crack before every training session he has and most of us don't give a shite.
All Les Miles did was remove him from his team, which he has a duty to make sure there is order in.
RP's football career isn't over. RP apparently took part in some poor behavior and most of us think, based on the info we have at this time, that Miles gave him every chance he felt was necessary to stay on the team.
It wasn't like RP didn't have a 3 year history of questionable behavior.
