Had Russell played big against Auburn and Florida(the two games LSU lost) he would have garned some AA and Heisman love
Russell came up big against Tennessee and Arkansas that year.. both top 10 at the time. He would have been a shoe-in for the Heisman had he had similar games against Auburn and Florida, but the two games I mentioned should at least have put him in the middle of the conversation.

no cause he doesnt have the stats of hiesman corner( and those two words together, alone make it a stretch) cause he doesnt ever have anyone throw to his side. He is basically too godly and good for the hiesman

LSU doesn't know how to market a player for Heisman
Its promote not market...... and they shouldn't have too especially with the national exposure they get at a place like LSU.
They have to win also.... 9 and 3 won't cut it.

Unfortunately for Peterson, the guy that could help his Heisman hopes the most plays on the same team.
His name is Jarrett Lee.

If there was a year for a defensive player to win it, this seems like a good one. There aren't many big name qb's and running backs out there that will be getting all the preseason hype (Ingram will not win again). 7-8 picks w 3-4 TD's on a 10 win team could get him to NYC this year....I can't think of a weaker returning group of Heisman candidates

What were Woodson's stats the year he won?...8 int's/3 total td's /1 sack/12 rec./47 tackles....and that was enough to beat one of the best and most heisman hyped qb's of all time...it's not that huge of a stretch...doubtful, but definitely do-able...what qb besides Mallet, maybe, is going to give him a hard time?

If all things were equal, absolutely. I'm a huge PP fan. I think he should be considered but that won't happen.
Do a search and find the last defensive player that won it. It's been a longggggggggg time. Dorsey and Ndamakong Suh won damn near every award except it.
So, short answer is no.

You left out the most important part, Michigan was undefeated and waiting to play in the title game when Woodson won. Add that to Peterson's to do list.

Forgot Meechagin was undefeated...Those stats could still get him to NYC in a down year but not win it....I think it's a whole lot tougher for a DT to win than a DB/KR...people just don't value sacks as much as Int's and TD's...and yeah, its been a while, but that makes it more likely for the voters to mix it up if there isn't a big group of lights out offensive performers...again, doubtful, but he has the potential (if qb's don't avoid him every game...in that case, how about Mo Claiborne for Heisman???!)

will he stop blowing coverages?
Blow coverage 3 times in a season and this is what you get? How about the rest of the season when he shut down his side of he field? How about when he got robbed from making the best play of the season against Bama? Deion Sanders blew coverage every now and then. It amazes me that people will even bitch about the best player on our team and probably the best DB in the country. It must really suck to go through live with such a miserable frickin outlook.

Could PP be a legit Heisman candidate?
If he played for a winning team.

Really? LSU "promoting" him would be for LSU to advance him or move him up.
LSU "marketing" would be LSU selling him and getting the voters to buy.
So, Joey H on the big board in NY was promoting? NO, it was marketing my friend.

I agree with that, strange things have happened, the Heisman has been awarded to 3 Sophmores in a row. That being said, I don't see PP7 getting the award regardless of how he plays. I do see a big future for him and look forward to watching his career.
