Disappointed ... certainly. Suprised ... not at all, and that's what the writer is stating. LSU's defense, while highly rated, was not consistent, and I think that's a knock on Chavis and the scheme, moreso than the talent on the field. Build consistency on defense, and LSU is championship caliber. Experience the same types of breakdowns we saw last year and 3 losses won't surprise me. And we all know about the challenges at the QB position.

If we beat Oregon and then West Virginia........It's gonna be a great year!
If we lose to either or both probably another Cotton Bowl.
It's bullshite for this team to be going into yet another season with a questionable QB!

I didn't know we had a QB?

I think our O's abilities are our D's biggest issues to deal with and the situations they will then find themselves in, repeatedly.

has been discussed already. Defense, esp at linebacker, is inexperienced. For that matter, Nevis is going to be missed sorely, imo.

It would be a surprise to me. This team certainly has the talent in most positions to be very very good. I think defensively, LSU could be awesome.
wouldn't be a surprise here. New OC, QB play still very mediocre, defense has a big "?" on it.
Talent is only half the battle. It has to be applied. 3 losses is definitely a possibility, especially with the schedule we have this year.

Agreed. ...and after watching the spring game (I know it's just a scrimmage), I feel MUCH better about the defensive front seven.
The whole "it's just vanilla" description of the spring game keeps me from feeling better about the defense. To me, scrimmages like that are better suited to see how the offensive plays run and how well they are executed more so than the defensive prowess.

How can LSU lose three all-conference players (Nevis, Peterson and Sheppard) and not have some kind of decline?
This past year we had 6 returning starters on offense and 4 on defense, an still won 11 games.
Even with bad QB play.......
We lost:
Brandon LaFell
Chad Jones
Keiland Williams
Charles Scott
Trindon Holliday
Richard Dickson
Harry Coleman
R.J.Jackson
Chris Hawk
Danny McCray
Jacob Cutrera
Lyle Hitt
Perry Riley
Rahim Alem
Ciron Black
Chris Mitchell
Al Woods
Charles Alexander

4 years running with QB questions?
Not possible-Miles is the greatest coach in LSU history and would never allow it to happen. JJ will have another Jason Campbell type Senior season and compete for the Heisman.
Our new OC is the best in the country for QB development and the spring game means nothing.

Everybody can laugh all they want. Reason we paid an extra 200k/year for our new OC. He can develop QBs into all americans

There are 3 RBs (Davis at Arky, Lattimore at SC and Richardson at Bama) in the SEC that will have better stats than this guy. Lets throw in a few others like QB Luck from Stanford and RB James from Oregon and I can just keep going if you want. JJ will not be the best offensive player on his team - that will belong to Spencer Ware.
It is absolutely great to want this for him, but reality says something different - especially considering who we are talking about.

He just needs to have a Matt type year.

quote:yeah well we can only hope we can get a QB that is an effective manager of the game. JL would do a better job at that given a good strong running game and playing ball control offense. He wouldn't try to over do it IMO with a good OC. Hell Mett might be starting by game 5 considering we could be 2-2 or 1-3 by that point.
He just needs to have a Matt type year.
If people on here don't believe that, then they better wake up.
Oregon will be VERY difficult to defend as will WVU with the OSU OC. Then there is MSU who will be very tough, especially at home early in the season.
Be ready for a storm on here.

Say what you want but JJ is a Sr...
And he doesn't look any better than he did as a freshman. This alone should make you a little squeamish.

Only way we should possibly lose three games is if we get to play 14 games
If that happens then I'll be bummed we didn't take care of business.. but we would have made it to the SECCG, and that's a success regardless of the spinjob. Sure, it would suck to lose the SECCG and play in a shitty bowl.. but hell, I'll take SEC-west champs.. especially in recent years. If you put yourself in a position to win the SEC, you're putting yourself in a position to win it all.

LSU could start 1-3 and win teh SEC west and SEC overall. That would not bode well for our conference.
But it certainly can happen VERY easily. We could be 11-3 and win a BCS bowl.
Would you be happy with that result? I would actually take it considering those losses could be to 2 other teams playing in BCS bowls.

We gave up 31 touchdowns in 2010. We gave up 19 in 2009. Doesn't look like improvement to me.
We improved our defensive rankings in both the conference and the nation from year to year.
That's just the facts.
