"late news here, it appears as though the flight up to VA today was in fact to talk to Shaka Smart. We're trying to run that down and confirm it absolutely, but it appears as though that's who LSU was reaching out to...now whether or not, whether or not that'll ever be made public or confirmed or if Shaka Smart has any interest whatsoever, it appears as though that might be the conversation they were having today in Virginia."

I re-listened and posted this on page 3

Anyone mentioned the Portsmouth inv. is going on in the Norfolk area currently. College seniors. Here are the rosters.

Wait, so now Matt is backing off of Smart, and adding that Alleva might have met with Bennett instead?

No, but I been around baseball my whole life and I know more than these fricking nerds on TD.

Daryl Morey and Chris Wallace know more about basketball than many who have been around the NBA their whole lives.

Jeff Luhnow, Theo Epstein, and Jon Daniels know more about baseball than many who had long MLB careers despite not even playing HS ball.

Dont discount the nerds, they often gain a more valuable knowledge from their objective position than the most seasoned of the sports insiders.

This is just the tip of the iceberg too... there are general managers and even coaches in all of the major sports that have been very successful with only HS experience or less actually playing the sport.

I think Alleva is just doing a BBQ tour along the East Coast.

GA, VA, then maybe NC on the way out?

Shaka is not leaving VCU. I live in richmond and am a season ticket holder. He has already finished recruting for 2012 and only looking for one more player for '13. Illinois offered 2.5 mil and he turned that down. he is from wisconsin so it would make a lot more sense that he would go to a big 10 school when he does leave. He is very happy here and so is his wife. he has made a committment to the program. Vcu is getting ready to start building a new practice facility. Shaka said "I am happy here and i dont have any reason to leave. We love it here." VCU was one of only 6 schools in the country to sell out every home game this past season. 19 straight sell outs and a basket away from the sweet 16. four returning starters and a very good recruiting class coming in. Sorry folks - its NOT about the money with Shaka.

When he does leave, it will be because of money.
